Why? Fishing allows you to fish all sorts of fish ranging from measly Shrimp to powerful Shark! You're able to cook the fish you earn with the Cooking skill and use the cooked fish to recover your Hitpoints. You'll need this food to help heal Hitpoints while fighting, training Agility and to help you while Thieving when you are caught red-handed. Fishing is also a good source of money.
So you've decided to take up Fishing, eh? Well there are 3 towns where you can begin Fishing in: Lumbridge, Draynor Village and Al Kharid. The best would be Draynor Village due to the relative closeness of its bank. First off, you'll need some supplies to get your journey started. You can get a Small fishing net and a Crayfish cage simply by heading on over to the Lumbridge Fishing Store (Follow the red line on the below map) and either purchasing them or taking the free samples. 
The Map above shows where you can fish in Lumbridge and with which item. Crayfish are faster than Shrimps however, Crayfish will only heal 1 Hitpoint compared to the Shrimps healing amount of 3. If you want to bank your Fish, there is a bank on the Third level of the Lumbridge Castle. If you feel like Cooking, You have two choices. If you have completed the Cook's Assistant quest, then you use his range. If you haven't, you're better off just heading south-east to the Cooking Tutor and cooking your fish on his range (Marked by a If you just want to get your Fishing level up quickly and don't really care about cooking at this stage, consider the Crayfish fishing spot north-west of the Fishing store in Lumbridge. Due to it's close proximity to the Lumbridge Fishing store, it's a lot easier than just dropping or banking your fish. Plus, you can make a small profit. Off to Draynor now. Draynor is the best place for Fishing at this level. Getting to Draynor is easy, just walk West from Lumbridge. 
As you can see, the Bank is extremely close to the Fishing spot. If you are level 14 or lower, be aware of the Level 7 Dark Wizards that wander around the Fishing Spots. They aren't usually a problem as you are protected by the Willow trees, however they can get around and still be a problem. Don't forget there are other people Woodcutting and Fishing here with you, so every so often another player may kill a Dark Wizard for fun. While Draynor does not have Crayfish spots, there are still the good ol' shrimp spots. Once you have a full inventory, you should bank your Shrimp and cook them later. Last stop, Al Kharid. Al Kharid can be found East of Lumbridge, just over the River Lum bridge. If you have not completed the Prince Ali Rescue Quest, you will need to pay 10gp to enter, or you will have to follow the fence-line north until you find a gap in the wall. Walking through that gap can save you 10gp, but it is better off to just pay the toll. If you've completed the Prince Ali Rescue quest, you are able to enter for free. 
 You can fish Shrimp here but not Crayfish. Most players don't fish here due to the vicious level 14 Scorpion. Once again, bank your fish once you have a full inventory here. Because there is usually no other players here, You will have to run occasionally away from Scorpion if it attacks you (If you are Level 28 or lower). If you feel up to the challenge, feel free to kill it. Once you get level 5 Fishing, get a Fishing Rod and some Bait (From the Port Sarim or Lumbridge Fishing store, another player or the Grand Exchange). You'll be able to fish sardines. You should just bank these as they're better for cooking than for money. To fish sardines, Select "Bait" instead of "Net. You'll also get Herring at level 10 Fishing when using bait. Herring and sardines can be fished at any of the above locations. Once again, Draynor is the best place to fish at this level due to the closeness of the bank
Head over to the East side of the River Lum to where the "Rod" icon is. Once you get there: Fish! Once you get a full inventory, sell your Fish to the General Store directly opposite the river (marked by a If you want to keep the fish, consider using Law Runes to teleport yourself to Lumbridge Castle (31 Magic required), then bank your fish, teleport again and then go back to your fishing spot This is not recommended as you'll make less money, or even lose money due to the cost of Law Runes. If you want a change in Scenery or want a quicker way to get rid of your Fish, consider fishing at Edgeville. It is usually packed with people and there are usually people willing to take your fish (although for free) via Trade. If you want to keep your fish, follow the Red line to the bank. 
Head over to the Red Circle and pay 30Gp to one of the three Customs Officers and you'll be on a boat to Musa Point. Once you're there, head over to the Fishing spot (Indicated by the Lobster Cage and harpoon). 
Once there, you can fish Lobsters and Tuna (with a Harpoon). Lobsters sell for around 300-400gp each. You'd be better off to bank your fish. There are 2 ways to do this. The first way is to board the boat again, walk from Port Sarim to Draynor and bank your fish. Then head back to Musa Point again. The Second way (Recommended) requires you have to have completely finished the Lumbridge/Draynor Diary (Which is also Free-to-Play so don't worry). Using the Explorer's Ring 3, you are able to teleport to a Cabbage Patch in between Draynor and Port Sarim (Indicated by the Explorer's Ring icon on the map). The amount of times you can use this teleport is unlimited. Fill up your inventory with Fish and then use the Ring to teleport to the Cabbage Patch. Run down to Draynor and bank. Teleport again and run to Port Sarim, Pay 30gp and when your inventory is full, repeat again. 
There is one more way to get your Lobsters into your bank however, it requires 37 Magic. All you need to do is get an inventory full of Lobsters then teleport to Falador with your teleport runes, run to the east bank and bank your lobsters. Then run back to Port Sarim, board the boat and repeat 
If you have access to the above two methods, you will only need to bring 30gp each trip to cover the cost of the trip. Congratulations! You can fish every-single fish in the Free-to-Play game! You are now able to fish Swordfish which can sell from 500-600gp. However they are caught along with Tuna, so you'll get more Tuna than Swordfish. These can be fished right next to the Lobster Fishing spots by selecting "Harpoon" instead of "Cage". If you are serious about 99, you should consider getting Members. However if you are unable to get Membership, you still can get 99 Fishing in Free-to-Play, however it will be slower. The best way to get 99 is to fish Trout and Salmon (as said above). It is your choice if you want to drop them or bank them, but banking them will make you quite a bit of money in the long run. For the first 20 levels, Fishing in Members is very similar to the first 20 levels in Free-to-Play. However, you have access to another location: Catherby. Once you get level 5 Fishing, get a Fishing Rod and some Bait (from the Port Sarim, Lumbridge or Catherby Fishing store, another player or the Grand Exchange). You'll be able to fish sardines. You should just bank these as they're better for cooking than for money, but if you are desperate for money, you can sell it to the Catherby Fishing store. To fish sardines, Select "Bait" instead of "Net. You'll also get Herring at level 10 Fishing when using bait. Herring and sardines can be fished at Lumbridge, Draynor, Al Kharid. and Catherby. Once again, Catherby is the best place to fish at this level due to the closeness of the bank. 
Catherby is the best place in RuneScape for fishing (Unless you are fishing for Trout or Salmon) until Level 68. It is extremely close to a bank, and there is a Fishing Store right by the Fishing spots. At this level, you can keep the fish if you want, or you can sell to the Fishing Store (No player will buy low-leveled fish like Shrimp for example). If you are using a Summoning familiar to help you fish, there is a Summoning obelisk at the northeast end of the beach. Alright, so you've fished Shrimp for a bit and you're level 16. Now what? Well, head over to the Fishing Store and buy yourself a Big Fishing Net (Make sure in the title it says "Big"!). Still Fishing in Catherby, Begin to fish with your big net. You'll obtain trash like boots, gloves and seaweed; however you may occasionally come across an Oyster or a Casket with Treasure inside! Seaweed can be used in Crafting (along with Molten Glass) to make items such as Vials. So if you are an avid Crafter, keep them. Once you get to level 30, You can stay at Catherby and keeping fishing there until you can fish Tuna (Level 35), or you can go to Lumbridge, Edgeville or Shilo Village (Requires the Shilo Village quest to enter) and Fly-Fish. Shilo Village gives you some of the best the best Fishing experience in the game. To fly-fish, you'll need a Fly-Fishing Rod and some Feathers (Obtainable from other Players, the Grand Exchange or from the Port Sarim, Catherby, Lumbridge or Shilo Village Fishing Stores). 
Head over to the East side of the River Lum to where the "Rod" icon is. Once you get there: Fish! Once you get a full inventory, sell your Fish to the General Store directly opposite the river (Marked by a If you want to keep the fish, consider using Law Runes to teleport yourself to Lumbridge Castle (31 Magic required), then bank your fish, teleport again and then go back to your fishing spot. This is not recommended as you'll make less money, or even lose money due to the cost of Law Runes, it is a different story if you craft your runes though. If you craft your runes, you won't be losing any money (unless you bought the Essence used to make the Runes, then you'll lose a little bit). If you want a change in scenery or want a quicker way to get rid of your Fish, consider fishing at Edgeville. It is usually packed with people and there can sometimes be people willing to take your fish (Although for Free) via Trade, but this is less likely in members worlds. If you want to keep your fish, follow the Red line to the bank. Here comes one of the best ways to get experience in the game: Shilo Village. 
The Fishing spots are right next to a bank meaning quick and easy banking, as well as quick experience. If you stay here to 99, you can make quite a bit of money. If you are using a Summoning familiar to help you fish, there is a Summoning obelisk to the west of the River. There is one last place where you can Fly-Fish and it is west of the Fishing Guild. This method is nick-named "Rasolo Fishing" and it requires you to Fish a full inventory, then walk north to a wandering merchant called Rasolo, and sell him the fish. You make poor money, but it is around the same amount of experience of Shilo, but slightly faster. Therefore you're better off fishing at Shilo, but you can fish here if you wish to be alone. However one or two other players may occasionally be here. 
If you are able to fish Monkfish (see above), you should consider fishing them to 99 if you want to get 99. They're good experience and good money. To reach 99 from 62 by fishing Monkfish will require you to fish a whopping 105,839 monkfish, but in the end you'll be quite rich making around 40 Million Gp usually. Once you reach level 68 Fishing, you now have access to the world-famous Fishing Guild! If you are fishing Lobsters or Swordfish, it is highly recommended to fish here because the bank is extremely close to the Fishing spots. The Fishing Guild is located North of Ardougne, West of Seer's Village and the Ranging Guild. You can enter the Fishing Guild at level 63 with an admiral pie, or 65 with a fishing potion. 
Shark Fishing spots can be found throughout Catherby Beach. Jatizso is a good place if you wish to be alone. However, There may occasionally be one or two other players here. 
Another location where you can fish Sharks is in Burgh de Rott. It is not as close to the bank as some of the other locations however, it is isolated. There, of course, may be the odd one or two other players there. 
The last location you can fish Sharks at is North of Mobilising Armies. To use this method efficiently, you need to have a Ring of Duelling with you. It isn't recommended to fish here as there is aggressive ogresses and wolves close by and there is usually just one shark fishing spot. First off, head over to Mobilising Armies (Read the guide to find out more) and head north to the Fishing spots. Fish your sharks then use the Ring of Duelling to teleport to Mobilising Armies and bank your fish and repeat. This location is probably the least recommended of the ones mentioned in the guide due to the proximity of the bank and the 20-30 second run from the bank to the spots. 
 At level 90, you can fish the highest level fish available. The Rocktail. Giving a whopping 380exp a catch, they come with a downside. Not only do you have to avoid the Living Rocks (which vary from level 120-200), but you actually have to mine "Living Minerals" (which is the bait required). To get this, you have to kill one of the creatures in the cavern and mine them after the slaughtering for the bait. More can be found in the guide linked above. These usually fetch around 1,500gp per catch. It is not recommended to fish Sharks, Cavefish or Rocktails to 99 as it will take an extremely long time, but you'll usually make a whopping 100+ million Gp depending on the cost of the fish. This may sound good, but it will take an extremely long time. After 10-20 minutes or so in this cavern, the Living Rocks will become "tolerant" of you. In other words, they will not attack you until you leave that section (That includes being teleported by Random Events) or you attack them first. However, there is another downside. As the Fishing spots move around, you will have to leave that "section" and if you return then they'll probably be aggressive again. At Fishing level 96, you'll be able to catch Sharks with your hands, first you need to be taught in the ways of the Barbarian and have 76 Strength. The three most popular ways of getting to 99 are Fly-Fishing at Shilo, Fishing Monkfish and Barbarian Fish. Here is a table to help you decide which method to choose:
If that isn't enough, Consider this: With Barbarian Fishing, you'll need to drop your offcuts every inventory. With Shilo Village and Monkfish you can easily bank your fish, but Monkfish will give more money for slightly lower experience. If you want to make lots of money and don't mind getting slightly lower experience, Monkfish would definitely be the best. If you want moderately fast experience and a good amount of money by 99, choose Shilo. If you just want to get 99 and don't really care about cash, choose Barbarian Fishing.
Whenever you wear this cape, everyone around you will know that you are one of the best Fishers in the game. Not only that, but every time you put on the cape (or "Operate" it via the Equipment screen when you have equipped it), you'll have 100/99 Fishing for a minute or so. This may help you catch a Shark or two quicker. 
For those who want to see the emote before you have 99 Fishing...   If your skillcape is trimmed (It will become trimmed once you receive 99 in two or more skills), then you'll also have a +4 Prayer bonus. This does not apply to untrimmed capes. There are also quests which let you choose the reward.
There is one notable random event where an evil cat kidnaps you and you'll be trapped on the island until you finish what he says. Don't worry, it shouldn't take longer than a minute. When he falls asleep, you will receive a Random Event gift, which you can use the lamp to give you Fishing experience (See above to find out how much experience you receive). 
The "Objectives" tab can also be helpful in reaching your Fishing goal. To set up an objective, simply head over to your Skill tab and right-click the Fishing icon. Choose "Set Objective", then enter the level you are aiming to reach. It shall then show your progress to the level you chose and what you will unlock once you reach that level!  |

Once you get 20 Fishing, you are able to fish Trout. Trout are popular due to their fast experience in Free-to-Play. First off, you are going to need a Fly-Fishing Rod and some feathers. These should be bought from the Port Sarim or Lumbridge Fishing Store, from another Player or from the

icon). If you choose the Fishing store, it is a few steps further away but you will generate a bit more gp per trip. Once you've sold the fish, go back and repeat.
You will begin to catch Salmon. If you want to, you can fish Tuna with a Harpoon (Purchase from the Grand Exchange, Port Sarim Fishing Store or another player) and head over to Port Sarim (Read below to find out how to fish Tuna).This is slightly more valuable than Trout. Fly-fishing Trout and Salmon is the fastest way to get 99 Fishing in Free-to-Play.
Alright, you're beginning to get pretty good at Fishing now. You now have the access to one of the best Money-making methods in Free-to-Play. Grab a Lobster Cage from the Port Sarim Fishing Store, Grand Exchange or another player and 60gp then head to Port-Sarim. You only need 30gp if you have access to an Explorer's ring 3 or choose to teleport to Falador and bank there (More details below).
