The Never-Ending Well Saga

It is permissable to kick:

1, Anyone spamming repeatedly, by which I mean '@@@@@@@@@@' or 'plz plz plz plz' or any unacceptable repetition of someone's name. Anything which renders conversation impossible, because the eight lines are being filled with one person posting such things. Discretion should be used. Mid-quest, it's quite feasible that someone will post 'omg!', followed by a second line of 'omg!' before calming enough to flesh out the detail.

2, Anyone being racist, homophobic, sexist, attacking individuals solely on their creed, culture, religion, disabilities or special needs, combat and skills level, mode of playing (f2p or p2p) or economics.

Otherwise, I see no need to kick anyone. No kicking should happen without clear and understood warnings; no kickings should happen whilst I am in the room, as, if it's needful, then I'm quite capable of doing it myself.

The Great Ranger Boot Merchanting Thing!

Posted by Merch Gwyar, Dec 5 2009, 05:18 AM in Merchanting

I am traditionally extremely bad at merchanting. From the old days of not selling things whilst standing in banks to the modern version of not at all reading the market. My merchanting skills make my combat skills look good. My general rule of thumb is to see what the clans are manipulating into high profit, then farm it. Yes, you read that correctly. There is always a merchanting clan somewhere targeting something that can be farmed. I bought full Guthans and a multi-cannon on the proceeds of them bumping up toadflax seed. I've just saved up 5m on the proceeds of them bumping up coconuts and papaya.

What should happen now is that the 5m goes on what I planned for it: Saradomin armour (sk). However, I have being trying to be savvy about these things. I joined Grand Exchange Central to learn about the market with safe money and fake items. I'm doing alright there. It has taught me to pay attention to the graphs. It was the information learned there which had me pausing before buying the Saradomin armour. The armour was at 5.1m, but that was the highest it had ever been. Not too long ago, it was 4.5m. Last June, it was 3.2m. Now it had stalled at 5.1m and wasn't going anywhere. I hesitated and hesitated. I kept asking People Who Know Markets, but none of them had any advice on the matter. It could go either way.

So I waited and woot! It started falling! I wouldn't have waited if it hadn't been for my suspicions, based in my learning from the Mock GE. It's given me heart that I could be more knowledgeable about merchanting. It's not just the preserve of those who speak maths. Then, smack bang in the middle of this waiting game, came a second bit of news. The one and only Sparhawke has created a Rs money related blog! In my mind, Sparhawke has always been the pinacle of Runescape money-making knowledge. If you go back through some of my merchanting blogs, you'll often see things like, 'What would Sparhawke do?' The conclusion generally being the opposite of whatever I subsequently did. sleep.gif I recall him trying to explain merchanting things in the Sal's forum and he led everyone on a big experiment using fire runes. It wasn't a merchanting clan thing, this was before all of that, it was a watching the market thing. A lot of people got rich and no-one who participated lost money. I didn't join in, because it looked like maths.

So here I am, finally with the will and confidence to pay attention to the market. By an accident of divine providence (ta Guthix), Sparhawke chooses this moment to launch Runescape Money Guild. He's written his blogs in language so simple that even I understand what he's saying. I'm going to try it. biggrin.gif

Here's my plan: I have 5.1m to play with, but that's to buy my Saradomin Armour (sk).

I'm going to keep my eye on that and buy it when I think it's not going to fall any more. I'm obviously open to suggestions on when you think I should be buying. >.> It was 5.1m two days ago, it's 4.9m now. After it's bought, the money that I saved between 5.1m and the purchase price is going to be my merchanting money. Currently that's 200k. I've failed before I start if that armour now goes up again. sleep.gif

When I have my money, I'm going to be working my way through Sparhawke's tips on Runescape Money Guild until I have enough money for Ranger Boots. They soared to 19m recently, but they're falling again.

How's that for an ambitious challenge for myself? I'll keep everyone informed on here, mostly so that you can run in front of me, as I'm heading to the GE, screaming 'Stttttoooooppppp! Go back and re-read Sparhawke's blog! You're doing it wrong!' But I'm going to give it a go. Wish me luck!

There are still a handful of slots to fill, mainly during the American evening, while the Europeans are fast asleep. Anyone got anything for them please? Parade? Scavenger hunt? Mass farming run? Nature ramble? Soup kitchen?

Thank you. I've just been reading trying to work out the best time to buy my Sara armour. There's no lines! I'm thinking that maybe 4.5m will be about right though. That would give me 600k to merchant with.

Hehe, good luck biggrin.gif I merch a little too, though not as much as I did a few months ago.

Nice job merch! And btw i've made 900k so far on d bones merch cool.gif

Definitely not going to run screaming to the G.E. to stop you. In fact I would advise starting with a little more money than 200k if anything. The way he shows is a great way to solo merch and the items listed are generally very stable and low risk (would almost put some of those at zero risk). He has a great guide, 5 stars for sure.

-82- Thank you! I'm already getting myself into a muddle. I've got a pad with different columns on it. This sum is my basic spending money; this sum is my merchanting money; this sum can only be spent on summoning shards. *sigh* I'm sure I'll improve as I get used to it. I just wish that Jagex incorporated savings accounts into your bank!

Kuemper: Me and you are as bad as each other! LOL

Eragon: Nice one! biggrin.gif

Gerasimos: I concur! I've so far used 240k for merchanting. I'd use more, but I'm a little low on funds in my general account. sleep.gif

You posted that exactly an hour after I'd just bought my full Sara for 4.9m. It was starting to go up again. sleep.gif
