Quickly Muad'dib! Get The Thumper!

First of all I finally hit 85 slayer this weekend biggrin.gif

Now when I logged on today I discover that there was going to be a system update in nine minutes. The first conclusion I jumped to when I saw this was that we were about to see the end result of the glowing hands incident and get a new skill. However at about four minutes before the update a fellow member in my clan chat discovered a forum post stating that it would be a new slayer update. I hadn’t expected this of all things seeing as slayer had just gotten the hook up with Kuradel and her new slayer clubhouse. Of course I am never against a slayer update and what this brought made me really happy. I’ve been saying for a long time that there should be a range equivalent of the slayer mask (Who cares about mage, go string some amulets). So the fact that they added it all into the same helm and added more magic defense sits just fine with me.
For those that don’t know a new slayer monster was added called strykewyrms. These wyrms of course dropped the components needed for the new and improved slayer helmet. But I couldn’t just go and kill them to get the gear; it turns out that you have to be assigned strykewyrms to be able to kill them. That being the case I decided to start canceling tasks Kuradel gave me until I got some strykewyrms. However for a second task I received 238 abby demons. And canceling those was bordering on one of the stupidest things I could do. So I decided to take them out before I went searching for wyrms as a task. Well it turns out that not canceling them was an excellent choice.

Not only did I get the hook up with a whip drop, but my very next task was 144 desert strykewyrms. So I grabbed my bunyip and headed out to the desert to fight some wyrms. Once I arrived I started thumping on the ground and out came a giant worm….. wait, what does this remind me of?

Well it turns out that fighting the wyrms involves slightly more than just auto attacking. They have a burrowing special attack that hits for thirty and has a chance to bug out and hit you twice for sixty. Once I figured this out it was fairly easy to dodge it. However some other people were not so quick to figure this out. A level 138 proved just how slow people can be as he ate two back to back sixty blows and toppled over dead. Congratulations, your max levels and hundreds of millions in gear can’t save you from your inability to juke. But I blessed his grave and he made it back in the end and started dodging the attacks.

While I didn’t get a piece of the new slayer helmet I did get a phenomenal amount of drops. Almost everything was noted and the drops came in huge amounts. I still prefer abby demons and gargs but these new monsters definitely get my seal of approval.

Little late but I wasn't around last night. Not very much happening in game of late. And blogging about slayer gets kind of boring.

Turtle 1, Nomad 0

Posted by Gerasimos, Jan 21 2010, 01:44 AM

So I’ve been gone for a while, RL happened. But today I reactivated my account now that things have settled down IRL. I hazarded a guess that by now a new quest or two had come out and as a result that I would have to put in some work in order to re-equip my quest cape. What I hadn’t expected was that one of the quests would be a grandmaster quest and I wouldn’t be back in my cape by hours end. Of course that is exactly what happened with Nomad’s Requiem.

But how hard could a grandmaster quest be? I had finished while Guthix sleeps when I was much lower level and when I had far inferior gear. But the forums were telling a different story on that one. Tears are nothing new on the forums. But this was beyond the normal river of tears. So I decided to play it safe and overstock for the quest and read some advice and watch some videos before I charged in. Well it was a fairly easy quest at the start. While I will say that it was easy I won’t say that it wasn’t frustrating. Fighting an avatar with well over 1000 health takes damn near forever. But when you compound that with the fact that roots spawn closer to him than you and he gets them and heals for about 1500 over the course of the fight…. Let’s just say it doesn’t make matters any better for you.

But I got over having to fight a boss with 2500 health after heals and reached the nomad without too much trouble. Of course I was well aware how dangerous he was by now after watching all the videos and reading up on the tips and tricks. So I decided to play it safe and do a test run with broad bolts and sharks instead of my costly ruby bolts and sara brews. The test run went fairly smoothly and I managed to get the nomad down to about 2/3 life before I ran over a mine and then took a massive charged attack to the back. So I geared up for the second run using my best consumables and my ruby bolts, I also brought out Bert the turtle to carry some more sara brews for me. Well it was the same as my first run for the most part except I had about three times the heals on me and managed to get him all the way down to his melee phase. A lot of people suggested using protect from melee and piety for this phase so against my better judgment I had come with the normal prayer book over curses. It turns out that protect from melee really doesn’t stop the nomad when he goes berserk and piety took of about three of the 100 incoming damage to the best of my calculations. Ok so reverting to my original plan of curses.

Well I headed to the temple and swapped to curses before heading back to the nomad. Well curses outshined prayers to no end that fight. However even they couldn’t make up for my poor inventory build. I found myself in the last stage of the fight with about five full sara brews and zero restores. I was forced by the nomad to drink the brews and put my range down too about five. Well sitting and watching nomad at a sliver of health and not being able to hit him was like watching a slow motion train wreck. I was ready to throw the towel in at that point. I realized even if I did manage to hit him I would only land around 2 which I doubted very much would be enough to finish him off. But right as I was about to go down my trusty side kick came through. Bert the turtle managed to land the killing blow on the nomad for a whopping 8.

Death Of A Fat Man

Posted by Gerasimos, Nov 30 2009, 06:29 PM

I have a death wish in game. I spent some time reviewing my activities in runescape and there is no way around it, I am asking to get myself killed. However due to some strange luck and a lot of near death escapes via tele-tabs I haven’t run into my good friend death recently. But I do some really dumb stuff; like farming dragon bones on bounty worlds. So I was expecting a death to come along soon. But this week my recklessness paid off instead of punishing me.

I decided it was time for a solo trip to one of my good friends in GWD. I had recently hit 70 prayer, which unlocked piety. As well as getting a new tortoise beast of burden. So I figured with these new tools in my arsenal I had a fair shot at General Graardor. So I loaded a ton of sharks onto Bert the turtle and myself and took off. Well I finally arrived and realized I had forgotten my hammer to get into the Bandos wing….. I am a downer sometimes.

Take two was slightly more successful due to the fact I brought a hammer with me. So I racked up my forty kill count and headed into the boss chamber. Well I had only done the general in groups up to that point and I freaked out a bit once the fight started. Well to be more accurate I freaked out a lot as he opened on me with a 50 damage combo. Well I screwed up and lost my cool and as a result wasted a lot of food. It was still a close fight even with my disastrous start. I ended up having to teleport out while the General was at about a quarter HP. But being the stubborn mule that I am I went right back at it.

On this occasion the third times a charm saying came true and I managed to down the General.

Not the best shot but I was busy unloading Bert

Sadly the general and Santa Claus are in cahoots and I got a stack of coal as my reward. I am not entirely sure but I belive a 115 stack of coal is the worst drop that the general has. But I was too happy to care that I had such a poor drop. I am just happy I can finally solo a GWD boss smile.gif

All Skills 60+

Posted by Gerasimos, Nov 25 2009, 06:43 PM

I decided that it was finally time to stop saving endlessly for high end pieces of gear earlier. Normally what I do is I save every penny I make and invest it in marching and buying gear that is way over priced when I finally get up there. But in a way that was ruining the game for me. After all you need money to do most activities within the game. So I decided I was going to split my money into two groups; money that I collected myself via slayer, farming, runecrafting, etc. And a merchanting fund for getting the really pricy stuff like a godsword and a Santa hat etc. This way I was saving for gear and other things that I wanted but at the same time I will be able to spend money on other things that I want to level now, like construction.

And level construction I did. I was sitting at 56 earlier but I decided what I needed to do was have one big push and reach the 60+ skill goal I have had on my list for so long now. So I headed over to the G.E. and bought 1300 oak logs and started turning them into planks with a little help of the hot air balloon route. Last time I did this I hadn’t gotten the penance gloves yet and was not able to take a full load of logs on the balloon due to the weight cap. But this time I managed to carry a full load of logs over and before long I had all 1300 logs turned into planks. So I grabbed a stack of house teles, my hammer, and my saw and got to work. Before too much longer I had reached level 60 and the 60+ milestone.

Of course being 60 meant I had a lot of expensive new things to put into my house. So of course I grabbed five gold leaves and some cloth and added a sleek new posh pull bell and two gilded four poster beds. But with the addition of these items to my house it was time for me to get a servant. So I headed down to Ardougne and chose the best man for the job.

But I also had two pets sitting in my bank and I decided it was time to add them to my pet house. So I grabbed my hell cat and my favorite pet ever the Broav from WGS and stuck them in to my menagerie. I would have added a throne room too but I am at room cap so that will have to wait till level 62, which I suspect will be coming soon. Getting back to the menagerie and pets in there though, I have only decided on nine pets at the moment; one of every color dragon, one of each of the god birds, a hell cat and obviously the Broav. So if anyone has any ideas on what I should do for the tenth pet let me know.
