Hello everyone. Recently, with JaGex officially releasing the new and awaited « Clan Chat » system built-in RuneScape itself, a great deal of questions and problems seem to have arisen. Many people seem to be wondering if there will be an official Sals’ forum chatroom in RuneScape. Quite a few of you also want to advertise their new chatroom on this forum in an attempt to make their channel the biggest possible, « official » or not. This thread was made to clarify some of those points.

Firstly, there is a discussion currently going on in the moderator board about the existence and the settings of an official chatroom. The decisions of those questions will be taken by the staff, and will be announced to everyone in due time through another topic in this board. Also, we do not think at all that taking a few days to discuss that situation is an annoyance. It is, after all, way better to spend a few days making official decisions and discussing things through than rushing things through and having several major problems with the running of the chatroom. We think, as a group, and looking in the best interest of the community, that it is the best thing to do to take a little bit of time to discuss about whether it is a good thing or not to have a chatroom when looking at the atmosphere of the community, and looking about its settings if it is to be created.

Another issue that has taken place is the advertising of chatrooms. Many people are asking if the can make the official chatroom of this forum. The answer is no. If a chatroom is to be created, we want to make sure it is under control of the staff. The worst thing we could do is let the official chatroom of this forum be owned by a regular user, whether that user is appreciated or not. We are not saying this because we think of ourselves as an all-star group that is superior to forum members. We are saying this because the staff is representing the whole forum and its projects. If we want that chatroom to stay in control and reasonable, there has to be some sort of control going on. The staff should be that control. There is no need to ask if your chatroom can be the official one. Also, it will not be tolerated to advertise your chatroom on this forum, whether you claim it to be the official one or not. Think of it as an update to the already existing rule against advertising. A great amount of spamming already is going on because people are trying to advertise, and it isn’t acceptable. It is very well understandable that people want their chatrooms to be successful, but it should not be made to the detriment of this forum, and that is the case right now.

At the moment, there is NO official chatroom for this forum. If we are to create one, it will be announced to everyone. We are not responsible for what is going on in anyone else’s chatroom, so if you encounter problems with someone there, there is nothing we can do.

Quite a few accounts, going by the names of "Salz chat", "Sals chat" or anything of the like, have been registered on RuneScape recently. It can be natural for anyone looking for the official chatroom of this forum to type out "Sals chat", and those people would think they end up in the official chatroom of this forum. It is, as you should have realized by now, not the case. Those accounts aren't controlled by anyone amongst the staff, and we do not have any control over what is going on there. Those accounts aren't the ones controlling the so claimed official Slams chatroom.

Wow. I can't wait until this is added (I choose not to doubt it won't be.) If there is actually a limit to how many people can join a channel, I can ensure this will be one of the first to do so.

I see no reason why not. If spam entries are allowed why not clan chat entries.

Yes, advertising in your siggy (and blog) is fine, as always. We just don't want topics and posts advertising channels here.

That's clearly unfair, how come people can advertise clans? And not clan chat channels? This seems like the SAME thing.

My channel is a clan, because:


Clan:

A large group of relatives, friends, or associates.

Same thing! It's a group of people in a channel, more like a clan.

Thank you for clearing that up. IMO I don't think we need a chatroom though, it's the same thing as an IRC channel or a shoutbox, there's too many people on it at the same time, it's hard to moderate, and it's another place to spam.

If he set ranks then how would he know who gets a rank or not?

I would imagine he has ranks set when he's setting it up so people can't come in and spam when he's trying to set ranks up and what not.

So he is only setting ranks such as mods, and then letting people go in?

Im against this. It'll be the same as the IRC room and maybe even harder to control since a lot of people here have different names then their runescape names.
