We are getting a new broadband, because of getting digital TV in HD.
But im not usre that its at all any positive, becasue we get 10Mb dealt on 7 PCs. Will this be a good speed or a speed that (sorry for the word) suck? Because i dont want to play Halo with lag that makes it unplayable 24/7. The broadband was supposed to be cheaper.. And mum says that we dont get the supposed speed either from the current. Maybe some of it is because she uses only the wireless? I use the cable, which is my trusty friend, and it always delivers speed up in 700kb/s maximum on the internet. I am a Halo-player that plays alot and want NO lag because i dont play good with lag. And i need fast download and up speed. And SERIOUSLY. the up-speed is only 1.8Mb/s!!!! I think the up speed will change the lag alot becasue you upload it to the game server about where you go and do. But my mum also say we use net through the old phone-net from old times, it has never been upgraded in over 20 years.. And al ittle speed-test made the speed 2866kb/ps. Which is actually more then it would be at the new if it was dealt. And info about the existing one, its for up to 50mb/ps. This post has been edited by King Aragorn: Apr 30 2009, 11:38 AM |

What is your current download/upload speed and what are is the maximum download/upload speed (the one they advertise) of the new one.

The current i dont know sure, but its surely VERY high. (Think it was maybe 100Mb/ps? or 50?)
The advertised was 10Mb/ps down and 1,8Mb/ps up. And divide it with 7, and youll get my coming speed... But a speedtest showed 2880Kb/ps down on the current. This post has been edited by King Aragorn: Apr 30 2009, 12:59 PM |

http://speedtest.net/
Check your speed with that. Even 7mb/s is fast. I have 3mb/s and can any online game I want while browsing the internet with no lag. |

But remember that its DIVIDED into 7, which is low.
At that speed test i got 3.6Mb/s download and 0.38Mb/s upload. With the new one i will get approximately 1,42 down and 0,25 up. That will be the end of my high speed... ----... WHY do they think of PRICE infornt of SPEED? Its the quality that matters Ok, it kinda better now; if it moves slow, we will upgrade to another broadband from same ISP. Unless your using your computer as a webserver or you upload alot of HD video then upload speed is irrelevant.
10mb/s is good for gaming. This post has been edited by lilshu: May 18 2009, 01:02 AM

Depending on the cost 10mb/s could be fairly steep (I know where I live it barely gets that fast). 3mb/s is a good speed. I can have the 360 on multiplayer while playing online games on my pc and downloading a 1gb file (downloads in about 1 hour) and there's no lag. |

I believe my up-speed can affect games like Halo.. (But we could actually get up in 60Mb/s This post has been edited by King Aragorn: May 17 2009, 01:43 PM |

But i dont understand: how can the speed go up by getting just a new ISP? We have the same net around the area? And once i even saw that the cables underground were looking old. (We made a new parking place ot avoid plants and grass) And our speed would even be supposed to 50Mb/s now, total. And we never used maximum.. that sucks, not to use the full power of the net we pay for.. i ownder where they get that high speed, is it in the city they have best net? i do hope it gets better speed. because i use to get around 78 to 2000 in ping at Halo. And i see it counts on how the gamelay online is, i use to just like, teleport on the field and get kicked or banned from the server for it now i cant even find a The_Land_of_hyrule_v.02 server to play on.. Its just unfair.. that they judge after your ping.. This post has been edited by King Aragorn: May 18 2009, 08:40 AM |

BTW King Aragorn, I get no where near that speed for upload. 10Mb download, and 512K upload also, UK sucks for upload compared to America etc I think.

Having 512kb upload must suck..
A turbo3G phone gets higher speed, and they plan even better at 7,2MB down instantly because the network is always good connected (The planned net is 4G) But i dont expect a change in speed actually, its the same net, just cheaper to have it |

The only time upload is needed is when uploading pictures or videos to a site and even then 512kb works for most. |

Upload is needed for playing online with Halo, how else would others see that you move?
Or do they just send the position and action information only? (That is a clever way) If thats hte case, i wonder why i get so bad connection.. |

(That is a clever way) If thats hte case, i wonder why i get so bad connection.. Your computer sends basic information like your characters coordinates what weapon your using what animation is being performed etc. The server receives this info and sends back data to you and other players computers which then updates your screen. The reason why download is so important is because your computer in gameplay is constantly downloading maps, images, and info to keep the client updated. Compared to your computer just sending small information packets. Only computers that need huge upload speeds are servers and people who upload Long or HD video and those who upload programs and pictures with huge file sizes onto the web. Once upon a time (This is not a fairytale..) i didnt lag at all, just plain and nice. Which was the ifrst time i played online. I thought it was a huge desert on Bloodgulch I remember that as lag-free all the time. But lastly i have only played Ce, is that a difference? Its mostly same maps? (without some custom ones) |

If your using a router you can stop the lagg by getting a switch instead.... I have 3 pc's on a 6mb connection and never anyproblems even when we all log into same game. Routers kill your speed IMO

If your using a router you can stop the lagg by getting a switch instead.... I have 3 pc's on a 6mb connection and never anyproblems even when we all log into same game. Routers kill your speed IMO This is a TOTALLY different situation: We have 8 PCs connected, 4 of the ports are full, and we use wireless. You must have totally not read all of the details. Before the current we used a router with ONLY 4 ports and no WiFi. And then i didnt even have connection all the time, which sucked because i had to share connection with my sister while the other 3 ports were all the time connected. We tried a switch once when my sister got her portable computer, and it ended up giving only 1 connection to net on 1 cable and the other PC was registered offline. No switch, but a Dual-router is what we have now (Router and modem and a WiFi sender/receiver) The router we have now is great because we can connect unlimited computers without reducing speed for the PCs because we have paid for 50MB, how could that make lag?
