i got a thinkpad for mom to play RS and a fresh install of XP pro sp3
all is working well. i saw the latest recommend from ms is IE8 so im trying it - and its laggs a lot [yes got all critical updates done] IE8 is just slo. Fire Fox runs great and thats great. you know how parents can be - using stuff you warned them not to she will likely use IE8 & then tell me how slow it is So i ask is there something i missed getting to help IE8 work? or is it a wait for MS to patch it & make it better? ideas & opinions welcome - thanks ppl *yeah i like the Fox browser best too. |

IE actually isn't that slow anymore. It's far faster than the IE8 Beta, and a Java based game won't lag because of a browser, that's nonsense.

IE8 is actually the fastest on average out there at the minute. Still... speed isn't everything.
And no, i'm not counting browsers you make yourself. |

Everything I've seen shows IE8 as slower than most of the other major browsers. http://lifehacker.com/5160709/browser-spee...ari-4-stacks-up is the only article I could find online. I know it's comparing the 2nd beta of IE8, but still...it doesn't seem to perform so well there. |

To be fair, that video IS made by Microsoft. It is likely to be biased. |

True, but as i said, speed isn't everything. How did you know it was made by Microsoft anyway? I haven't watched it all, just enough to get the gist...

Speed is everything. I also recall you saying that, many times maybe, Caboose (or something close to it).

Erm... what? I don't remember this at all
So you would go online, sals, games... pornography, whatever floats your boat in a browser that was slightly faster but had say, no URL bar, no back button, no tabs... no security. No, in a browser at least, speed is not everything. |

I hate internet explorer. It's just really cruddy. Like I can't install flash player on it. I can on firefox and chrome, but not on IE. I just don't like it.

No, in a browser at least, speed is not everything. See, now you're just twisting my words. You need all of those things to use a browser.. But you can have them all and still have good speed.. Now, go with your classic windows 98 taskbar because it uses less resources and makes your PC faster. |

It's actually Windows Standard system scheme. But no, i use it because it doesn't compromise anything else. I don't care about looks much, so i use this. It's not really related. I never said that speed is everything, i just like speed. You were talking about speed above all else.

interesting debate some engaged in here -
i was simply wondering if ms might have fixed IE8 since last week. ill check the ms site to see if there is an answer there plz no need to argue about if a browser might be slow - yup some work & some are a work in progress. at first IE7 was a dog. ms got it running well - then sprung IE8 with its shortcomings. the circle of creative life i guess. meanwhile i prefer fire fox ver2 - ive had ver 3 & went back to ver2 & it browses fine. but we all know some ppl think they need to use the "E" [thats what my sisters n mom call it lol] its all a persons choice. |

True, but as i said, speed isn't everything. How did you know it was made by Microsoft anyway? I haven't watched it all, just enough to get the gist... In the description it says 'Jomar Marcelo Microsoft' Slightly more on topic - Microsoft have certainly improved IE with IE8. However, it's still not satisfactory enough for me to use. I used Firefox 3 as my main browser for a long time, but currently I'm using the latest beta build of Chrome 2 as I find it to be faster and less distracting.
