How long does it take your computer to go from being turned off to being logged in to Runescape? And are you happy with the amount of time it takes, or do you think it is too slow?

My laptop took 3 minutes and 35 seconds when I timed it to turn on, log into my user account, connect to the Wifi, open up Google Chrome and log into Runescape (using the Windows 7 RC as my OS). I'm pretty happy with that time; it doesn't seem too slow to me. I normally have my laptop on standby anyway.

What about your computer? smile.gif

My laptop with a pentium dual core at 2ghz takes around 45 seconds to boot and open up firefox to the forums and facebook. Shuts down in about 20 seconds. smile.gif

This is on Vista, I haven't timed 7 but it's around the same thing. I'm pretty happy about that time. I've pretty much turned off everything on startup and services I don't need.

How'd you get Vista to boot up that fast? That's insanely fast compared to my Vista pc with and AMD Phenom quad core processor at 2.20GHz. I think it takes at least 3-4 minutes here.

Start > run > msconfig > startup > I turned everything off except synaptics, peerguardian, rocketdock, groove monitor, and HD audio control panel. On services I only have AVG and Online Armor (firewall), along with the rest of microsoft ones that I didn't want to mess with. tongue.gif

Athlon X2 5000+

I don't boot up the computer. Sleep FTW tongue.gif.
Plus, it's not my computer.
But if I had to boot it, probably 2-3 minutes.

I forgot to add that this is having multiple user accounts. Usually 5-10 seconds is shaved off with only one, but it seems the rest of the family wants to use this computer, too. rolleyes.gif

I must say, my Vista Home Premium sucks and takes about three to four minutes to boot and get online. Three years ago, it probably was two. Sad really, my Windows 95 used to boot up in 45 seconds and get to a game in ten.
My school computers boot and get online in less than a minute.

It's still insanely fast though...My laptop has a faster processor and the only programs that load on startup are Spybot's TeaTimer, AVG, Synaptic, and Privoxy, and it's several minutes slower bleh.gif You must have done a very good job at disabling services tongue.gif

I'll go and clock it to get it exact. Hold on.

Took about 45 seconds to get to my desktop and around 1 minute total to open up firefox.

I retimed it - took 55 secs to get to the login screen this time, and 2 mins 40 seconds to boot up fully and load Runescape. Strange that there was such a big difference between the 1st and 2nd attempt - I haven't changed anything huh.gif

Yours still seems very fast though biggrin.gif

Looking at the times, they seem to be very varied. Sometimes Vista boot times are slower than XP on a machine with the same specs, but sometimes they are faster. Very weird tongue.gif

Depends. With Vista it must be around 2 minutes. With DSL on the other hand... the blink of an eye?

My laptop: 12-15 minutes from boot to Firefox being open.
My other laptop: Around three minutes to boot, but it can't get an internet connection so N/A.
This computer: 2-3 minutes from boot to Firefox being open.
Other computer: 20-30 minutes from boot to Firefox being open.

Obviously, I like this computer best tongue.gif. This one is Vista, all the others are XP.

I've been trying to speed up my main laptop and the other computer, but my efforts haven't done anything yet. I plan to work more on that during my summer break. Hopefully I'll be able to find out what exactly is making them so slow and fix it.

My computer boots up in less than 1.5 mins, that's booting up, entering pass, logging in, and playing runescape.

Windows Vista =(. closedeyes.gif

Edit:Also, every single service and startup option in msconfig is activated, but now I've noticed that, disabling a few =).

No time, 'cause it's coming out of hibernation or about 5-10 seconds coming out of sleep mode. I reboot it every few days, which takes about 40 seconds - Win7 Ultimate on netbook, what can I say?
