50-60 seconds on Vista, loaded with a ton of programs.
Although I haven't really timed it; just feels like that long to me. |

My laptop shuts down in 15 seconds, and I made it to the forums in 45 seconds since the time I pressed my power button.

boot time: 12 seconds, 15 seconds when including password typing (imac 2.93 dual core, 4gb ram)
shutting down without any programs still open is about 6 seconds |

12-16 minutes on my olderish Acer laptop but its been through alot.
Scariest thing is how long it takes me to shut it down (Properly) One time it took 42 minutes My current computer that i use for university and stuff takes about 10 seconds to boot and 20 to shut down. |

Ubuntu on a high-end computer is really fast, but I'm not sure if it's that fast. OSX is also pretty quick, but again I'm not sure if it's *that* fast. Takes about 45 secs to start up, 1 sec to shut down. Are you holding down the power button or what? That's insane for a shutdown... Actually no, I'm shutting it down properly. I click shutdown, a second later it's turned off. That's one thing I love about my computer. |

If boot time and speed is what you're after, then get either DSL, Puppy Linux or Feather Linux. I have absolutely no idea which one to get at the minute, they're all similar but which one's the best?

You sure you're not clicking some kind of sleep button, where everything just fades to black and seems like it's been turned off? This post has been edited by nrox653: Jun 12 2009, 02:55 PM |
