Ok here what I wanna do... Yesterday i was out hittin local yard sales and came across a guy who bought 4 pallets of computer part at auction.... he ended up with over 200 PC's macintosh and microsoft.
I bought 3 Gateway astro's for 2 bucks and they are useless goin to toss them in dumpster.... I also bought 4 Apple G3 Blueberry's for $1 each so i spent about $8us in total for all with some other stuff he had pilled up. (bought to un-opened boxed of Mac osx for $1 each) What my question is... can I install windows xp on one of the blueberries? well yeah I know I can someone told me that it's poss. in another thread the pc vs. mac thread... what I want to know is how. I know it violates the COC but I really dont give a crap about that. My knowledge of Mac can almost fill a thimble so please be kind.... none of them have hard drives.... I have tons of parts from Mic. pc's can I use them or is Mac diff? is Mic ram and Mac Ram interchangable? If not were do I get the parts I need? or should I just install OSX? if so can I network it with all my Mic pc's? and still be able to communicate/ share files? here's the specs on the blueberry http://www.everymac.com/systems/apple/imac...s/imac_350.html This post has been edited by adrenalsky: Jun 14 2009, 08:35 AM |

Which OS X? If it's Panther (10.3) or lower, you can install it. It'll work with OS9 as well.
I don't believe you can put XP on it, without it being slow as hell. It's a PowerPC processor and they hate Windows. I've got a G4 tower and I tried XP on it to see how it would work and frankly, it sucked. A G3 would die. Keep OS X or OS9 on it and have some fun with a Mac OS. Get used to it, play around with it. It's always good to have knowledge on other OS's out there. I know people said it was possible, and it is, but it's unbearable on any non-Intel processors. Only the last few years have been Intel. Any G-series will have a PowerPC processor I believe. You should be able to use the hard drives and RAM between the computers. They'll be able to network with your other computers, as well. ~Bcloutier~ |

Thank you... I was wondering about the speed if I put xp on it being that it's an older mac. and yeah I guess I should play around with Mac os so I can get a feel so to speek. My only other experience with a mac computer was back in the early 90's-late 80's with the old apple IIE computers at school and I can remember we had to use a dos boot disc to use alot of the programs.... I am sure that they are alot easier to work with now....
was the $4 i spent for the 4 g3's a good buy? This post has been edited by adrenalsky: Jun 14 2009, 04:41 PM |

It's actually impossible unless you use emulation.

It was an incredibly good buy, even G3's are worth at least $30, kinda makes you wonder where the person got the computers though |

It's actually impossible unless you use emulation. Simulation is even better.. That computer, isnt it WAAY too slow for XP? 350Mhz is worse then then old Pentiums from the times when you got Windows 98 on custom builds.. I bet you wont get much for those parts, best to sell on eBay, you atleast get some profit.. Because to say it straight.. Those computers have a reason to be that cheap.. |

Yeah this guy probably has like 60 blueberries and about 20 or so G2's....
He went to the county auction last year and thought he was bidding on 2 pallets with about 10 blueberries each but ended up getting 2 lots... 4 pallets in each lot of various apple and windows pc's... so there not stolen he just has a ton of them... he said He'd let me fill the bed of my truck with as much as I can fit in it for $25. |

Wow. Do it then sell them or salvage them. You could make a good amount from it. |
