Are you sure you need 8gb? 4gb sticks of Ddr3 cost about 450 dollars. You'd need two, so that's $900. Feel free to check out http://crucial.com and use their system analyzer to know the exact sticks you need.

What in the world are you doing on a Macbook that you need over 4GB for?

Independent testers test them - unaffiliated with Apple.

It's a theoretical maximum.

If there's only two slots (probably) you'd need to buy two new 3gb sticks.

You still haven't said why you want that much. As far as i can tell, it's just wasted money. I have 2GB on Vista, i usually only use half that. I don't see how having more than 4GB is going to help.

But 8GB? That's overkill, for pretty much anyone. Since it's a mac i highly doubt it's for gaming, so unless you plan on editing 6 videos, 14 large images, 4 3D renders and infinite internet tabs then you don't have to spend that much. You don't really have to spend anything. I'm not criticizing you, i'm just trying to save you time, effort and money.
