Yay, FF 3.5 is out today and can be downloaded here.

New features:
Private browsing/forget this site
Speed increase
New security features
Smaller memory footprint
Improved awesome bar
Much improved tabs
Location aware browsing
Built in media player
Support for HTML5 (along with other newer languages)
And MORE

I really like it so far.

You can try out HTML5 for videos here and audio here. Basically it's built with HTML, not with those other players you need, which means you can do things like right click and save as for everything. biggrin.gif

I'm getting poor performance and random bouts of freezing and change of focus. I'm going back to 3.0.11.

That's really weird, it's been completely plain sailing for me. What were you doing when it crashed?

Mine hasn't been brilliant either, had a random close of it earlier. It also occasionally closes one of the tabs and opens it up in a separate window which is annoying.

It didn't /crash/, it was just really lousy performance. After about an hour of it, I scoured the interwebz to find a 3.0.11 installer and downgraded it. To me, it seems like Mozilla is content to follow in Microsoft's footsteps dry.gif instead of doing what they did before, which was to beat their own path based on what users want.

Same, it's just the same as 3.11 but faster and more secure. And i've had infinite tabs open, playing several flash/java games at once... nothing.

I ran into that problem when I started using it but its actually a nice feature that your using by accident. Stop clicking and dragging your tabs onto the main part of the browser and it won't do that anymore. Its a kind of annoying feature sometimes but once you figure out how it happened its not a big deal.

The Mozilla community have provided an add-on to prevent this feature: http://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/12276 It's only an experimental add-on for now, but it works fine. After installation, go to Tools > Add-ons > bug489729 v1.2 > Options button > Checkmark: Disable detatch tab. It'll then work w/o restarting your browser.

@ Red: Nope. I use it on a daily basis and haven't had a problem with it yet.

I'm sorry that fix didn't work. I tested it on Sunday and it seemed to work fine for me. Looking through the comments on the Lifehacker page I linked to, people are suggesting using the Tab Mix Plus add-on as apparently this has a setting to not close the browser when the last tab is closed.

I expect everyone will experience some problems with FF for a month or so while they iron out the bugs; it's the same with pretty much all browser releases.

Seems like it's Chrome-ized version of FF to me.

Yeah, it's definitely a Chrome clone. Guess they had to change once Chrome started handing it to them.

The tab button is the only cool thing I see that they added. I don't really see a change in the awesome bar.

Hardly. Firefox and Chrome still have very different interfaces and approaches (such as Chrome's sandboxing, Firefox's add-ons, e.t.c.). FF may have added some features from Chrome, such as Private Browsing, but frankly all the browsers are going to have to add stuff like that in order to keep up.

@Gillis: The tab button wasn't the only change tongue.gif Redmonke's original post lists some of the new features.
