Well, I got a lot of suggestions for different types of computers in my other topic, and thanks to everyone who suggested. But, I decicded to stick with the same brand I have always used because I am use to them, BUT, they switched to Vista. This is my first Vista computer so I wanted to know before I open it and plug it up if I should buy something new. I only need a tower, but here is what the box says(I think I want to stick with Vista)
AMD Athlon Processor Windows Vista Home Basic 2GB Memory 160GB Hard Drive Reads/Write CD/DVDs Digital Media Reader I have about 298$ and some change, so I need some help. Remember, I only need the tower. |

Contact the manufacturer and see if they acknowledge the Win7 upgrade.
Basically from now between October, if you buy a computer that has Vista on it, the manufacturer should give you a free upgrade to Windows 7. |

Yes, as Redmonke said I would definitely contact the manufacturer about Windows 7. If you can get that for free when it comes out, then go for that, as it would work decently on it. If they won't give you it for free, I would either try and find a better tower (which you're unlikely to do for the same price, unless you build it yourself), or pay for Windows 7 Home Premium when it comes out. Vista Basic is not at all satisfying to use and wouldn't perform very well anyway. But bear in mind, if you get a free upgrade, it will be to 7 Home Basic, which won't have the new interface and a whole load of other features (it would still be better than Vista though).

Does that mean I can get Windows 7 for free when it comes out? I have a Gateway MD series. |
