It is illegal. Isn't it? Well if it's not it should be. Pay for your movies!!

Personally, I definantly believe it should be legal.

By the way, torrenting copyrighted content is illegal already; torrenting non-copyrighted content is legal; so where's the debate?

I see Dani's point. I don't think the MPAA are going to be coming after you.. seeing as how you only download movies that "make your day." weowzerz. xd.gif

Its already illegal but thats not going to stop me. As far as I'm concerned they don't do enough about it to be worth my problem.

If people gets movies etc. for free, you cannot profit with making movies. It means that near all the film studios etc. will get a bankruptcy if they won't get any advertising profits.

If you want to get yourself happy with watching movies, I think you may pay for them.

My friend was caught, got his computer confiscated, and was fined 3,000 dollars. If you have that much money to blow... slanty.gif

But yeah, musicians, actors, making this stuff we keep stealing is their job. If we don't buy their stuff like we should...

Lol. They'll only go after you if you have about 1k+ downloads, and they don't even bother tracking people that use IRC.

It's illegal, what's the question again? Won't stop everyone from doing it.

Hell no it shouldn't. Should stealing be legal? Errr.

And about them busting you, to whoever said that (sorry about not addressing you directly, I'm lazy), they CAN catch you. Many university students are caught and sued because they source under a university server. They will catch you at work. Maybe not at your home (which they still can), but they are cracking down on illegal downloaders.
Myuu
Depends, if it's movies/songs/files/games/data your friend made and wants you to download, why not? But if it's movies/songs/files/games/data that wasn't meant to be given away, sure. I don't follow all the laws anyway. aware.gif

Luckily I'm smart enough not to download at public places and I'm only 13 so thats not a problem for me.

If you are caught, your parents would be sued, even if they're unaware of what is happening.

You can't be sued for something you haven't done.

Not much of a debate here. Downloading copyright material already is illegal. Do I believe that is right? Yes. Do I always follow that law? Not entirely. I don't download it, persay, but I do do a lot of borrowing my friends music, downloading it to my computer, and then giving it back. But that's illegal too, isn't it? aware.gif What was I talking about? Oh yeah, stay out of my booze.
kirby145
My friend he said that by using sharing programs, you would only get caught if you were the distributor. He said that's where the police and whatever are looking seeing as that's the easiest way to catch them. THINK ABOUT IT, the police is just going to press download the internet's illegal files, and they get everyone who has them! So turn off share files after you downloaded one! *cough*Legally of course! /cough

Oh and you can just borrow software in real life noone will give a crap.

Yeah you can. If the child is underage, it falls to the parent(s). Some states and communities, if you skip school, they go after the parent.
FireStint
It's illegal. But doesn't mean everyone will stop using it. I am using it as well. aware.gif.

To be honest, I do torrent quite often because it's legal (well at least up here in Canada.) Nonetheless, it should be illegal because you're taking away money from others. When millions of movies and games are torrented each year, billions of dollars are lost in the entertainment market. It's EXACTLY like theft because you're just taking someone else's work without paying or permission.

That's only true if you're below a certain age.. Your parents are responsible for you. I remember a few years back someone in the Boston area was sued for around $100,000 (it was on the news.. I didn't have cable so that's what I watched xd.gif ). But it was a teenager who did the downloading so it was their parents that were actually the ones being sued. I'll see if my local news station website has an article on it..

Are you sure? I thought that in Canada its only legal if you already own the thing. So if you own a CD you could download the music on that CD through torrents or whatever. unsure.gif

No Steve, I think downloading torrents and songs through a P2P sharing client is legal up here. smile.gif
