Whichever works best personally.

What is for the win if you only use it?

Just because you use open or paid programs doesn't mean they win.

Seriously, you can't generalise them both as 'good' or 'bad', they both have their advantages and disadvantages, but it is also application-dependant. Besides, who cares which is 'better'? Developers who have worked long on a project and invested a lot of money in it want to see some money back, ofcourse. The Unreal Engine for example is a great peice of open-source software, but a license has to be purchased for a staggering 9000 dollars to view the C++ source code. It is a good way to prevent malicious use of the source code while providing lots of information about the engine to developers, and also for people who are interrested in the writing of the engine to discover advantages and disadvantages of different implications of the engine.

internet explorer adobe photoshop cs3 opera

I can list off random programs too!

Anyways, I don't care if something is open source or closed source as long as it does what I need it to do.

I don't exactly see how it is possible to have an open source engine that you must pay $9000 to get the source code of.

Open source can cost, closed source can be free.
