Vista is definitely better than XP if you have a computer that can run it properly. For as far as I know, most software is compatible. The problem lies in the hardware.

Not only because there is less Vista-compliant hardware around, but also because everything in the hardware has to work, which is not the case with software.

If you buy a laptop with Vista, and it has atleast 1, preferable 2 gigs of ram, 1.60GHz+ Dual core or 3GHz+ single core and a Direct X 10 + Shader model 4.0 compatible graphics card, I'd say go for it! smile.gif

Can someone find a laptop like the one Toungy is describing. As long as it's under 5,000 dollars it's okay. smile.gif

Thanks! ice.gif

You can find that for $1500 easily.

Well... You can customize a Dell or HP to your needs or any other laptop manufacturer. A Dell Inspiron 1720 (Choosing the most expensive choice, $1189) You can customize to your needs by choosing these specs. Theres also the monster Dell XPS M1710. But it comes with the more powerful 7950 GTX but is DX10.. Nvidia 7950 GTX murders the 8600 series any day.

Intel Core 2 Duo T5450 1.66ghz
Nvidia 8600m GT (DX10) Im not sure if it has Shader Model 4.0 though.
It already offers 2gb standard at 667mhz if you choose the highest choice in the 1720

Heres a link to customize http://configure.us.dell.com/dellstore/con...DWMA2&s=dhs

Or, you can customize a HP laptop with pretty much the same specs but instead of the 8600m GT, they have the GS.

http://www.shopping.hp.com/webapp/shopping...=dv9500t_series

They are both great choices if you customize them correctly. If you don't want any of those 2 brands, theres many other Laptop makers out there.

My HP customized costs $2000 (almost), and I don't have all settings to the highest end, so you could get an even better one if you've got a budget of $5000 tongue.gif

And my graphics card (Nvidia 8600M GS) supports Shader Model 4.0, DirectX 10.0 and more. You can compare it to the 8600M GT here: http://www.nvidia.com/object/geforce_8600M.html

Also, for laptops, I personally recommend HP, especially the 9500 series. Best laptop cooling I've ever seen for a high-end laptop like this. Probably around 25 degrees maximum heat production. ohmy.gif

You don't fit new video cards into laptops though. I find it unlikely that charging a iPod would cause your system to crash, it's more likely to cut power to the iPod.

Hey guys, thanks everyone for posting. I customized a laptop on dell, and here's a picture of what I customized it to:

If someone happens to see something that needs to be changed/made better please post! ice.gif
Toungy
You might want to get a nVidia 8500, 8600 or even 8700 graphics card with that kind of a processor. Also note that a 2.4GHz Centrino processor is actually ~3.0GHz, because of Centrino technologies.

Other comments? It's a Dell, and I prefer HP laptops, but it's a great laptop anyways. smile.gif You can try assembling something similar with other companies such as HP, Asus, etc. and see what they ask for it, then decide based on that what you want.
Stobbo
If your happy with Dell, the only thing would be the graphics card as Toungy mentioned. The 8400 isn't that special, low end of the 8 series.
Desireful
I don't really understand what you mean. Is this a separate thing?

I think what he means is that if you like the Dell, the only thing he recommends you to change is the Graphics card (as Toungy has mentioned).

You might want to get a nVidia 8500, 8600 or even 8700 graphics card with that kind of a processor.

So no, it's not a separate thing..
You just get Dell to take out the 8400 and choose a 8500, 8600 or a 8700 instead. Basically they are saying that using a 8400 is a bit of a waste for the processor (in a good way...).

Oh okay. tongue.gif
I changed it to 8600, because that's the max Dell will allow you to go. Is everything perfect.. or ready to get?

I think everything's fine about that laptop. happy.gif
