When do you usually upgrade your computer OS (like XP to Vista)?
Is it right the day it comes out, or years later?
My Dad always want to get the new stuff immediatly or soon after it comes out, and our family does a lot of Beta Testing.
So I am just wondering when you upgrade your computer

.
Thanks

I upgraded to Vista, very shortly after release (few days), to beat my step brother in getting it. Only reason I bought my new laptop.

However, when I got my new desktop PC in May 2007, I choose to install Windows XP Pro, because I prefer it over Vista. I am even thinking of getting rid of Vista on the laptop and putting XP on their - but it would mean I would have no Vista license (OEM), and having Vista running can be handy for tech problems people may have.

I only use a new OS in a brand new build--if I would have built a computer during early January, I would have put WinXP MCE on there (instead of upgrading to WinVista HPrem). Anything there-after? Definitely--Vista.

Either when the OS I'm currently using is starting to have more support issues than the next version, or when I get a new PC.

I usually either get it right away, or wait a few weeks for the bugs to be fixed.

I was thinking of grabbing an OEM copy of WinVista HPrem... about a week before the release. Maybe, next time, I'll have a debit or credit account that I can get the latest as soon as someone says they'll sell it. Either way, I'll probably stay broke!

The computers at my house get upgraded when I finally convince my mom to pay for it. It took awhile for me to convince her we should get XP and it'll probably be another year before I can persuade her to upgrade to Vista. I really wish I had money so I could get it done sooner.

Right now i'm sticking with XP. I'll upgrade when I get a new computer, maybe a Apple.

I order online--best prices. Anyways--I'm basically broke, I have $100 left after ordering the motherboard and processor. I'll cover another $100, and my mum is going to cover $370-400 or so. So yeah, I'm basically broke. Missing out on a few good games right now, but I guess it's okay because I have a few AWESOME games (Freespace 2 Open with AdvMedia VPs) that I can't way to play in their full glory.
EDIT: I really don't care that much about buggys OS's, but if it's new when I get a computer, I gotta get it, regardless of my stupidity factor rising!

I wait until the major bugs are fixed, more programs support it, and programs no longer support this one.

We usually upgrade when we get completely new computers. Because of the bugs in Vista, I'm still using XP. I'll switch to Mac soon, then I will upgrade as soon as the new OS gets released.

I usually stick with the old OS until it's no longer supported, unless I get a new PC with the new OS preloaded.
On a side note: Ah, its good to be back on Sals, after like 6 months of inactivity.

I'm just basing on what I've heard. Because my computer broke down a week ago, some specialist came to have a look at it, and he said that there are still a lot of bugs in Vista, like stand-by mode not working, and such.

Well, as of a month or so after Vista released, I have not seen any bugs - or any proof of a bug.

With one of my new computers I got back in Christmas I got an offer for free Vista but turned it down because of all the bugs I've heard.
I'll probably upgrade when they fix the majority.
