What do you all think of them? I've read a bit about them. Tech specs...

GeForce 8800GT

Launch date: October 29
Core: 600MHz, G92 core on 65nm process
Memory: 1800MHz effective, 256-bit GDDR3, 256MB-512+MB
Single-slot cooler, 9" PCB, two DVI-D out, HDTV out, requires standard 3x2 PCI Express power connector
3DMark2006 score: 10769

110W power consumption
Price: $230-$260 USD

Radeon HD 2900GT

Launch date: October 8, said to be discontinued at end of October
Core: 600MHz, RV600 core (using defective cores meant for HD 2900XT) with 240 stream processors
Memory: 1600MHz effective, 256-bit GDDR3, 256MB-512+MB
Dual-slot cooler, basically HD 2900XT with a cut-down core, same specs and still requires 3x2 PCI Express AND 4x2 PCI Express power connectors
Price: $229-$299 USD

Radeon HD 2900Pro

Already launched
Core: 600MHz, RV600 core (using defective cores meant for HD 2900XT) with 320 stream processors
Memory: 1600MHz effective, 512-bit GDDR3, 512MB-1024MB
Dual-slot cooler, basically HD 2900XT with a slowed-down core, same specs and still requires 3x2 PCI Express AND 4x2 PCI Express power connectors
Price: $249 (512MB)-$299 (1024MB)

EDIT: The 8800GT looks like the best here... the G92 core will support PCI Express 2.0 and hopefully boost current DX10 performance. Remember that all DX10 benches out right now are not true DX10--it's DX9 ported to DX10, unoptimized for the G8n and RV6n0 cores.

Are they being recalled?

So that means... Single slot 8800 cards. One word, Yay. It does look a bit long though.. Wonder if its performance is better than that of the 7950 GT card. I also hope it wouldn't require a PSU upgrade from the propeitary Dell installed PSU (305w idle, but the peak rate is much higher).

Yep--single-slot. Remember that it looks quite large--however, remember that the GeForce 8800GTX is an 11" card that's also dual-slot... this one just looks larger because we aren't that used to seeing high-end single-slot cards. It's quite big though, but shouldn't cause any more problems then the 8800GTS. It'll be better then the GeForce 7950GT, not to mention support DX10.1 and SM4.1 (iirc on those--I've not pulled up the rumored specs in a while). It'll probably require a new PSU.

On the Radeon HD 2900GT and Pro, they're just defective HD 2900XT's... the GT is an actual silicon flaw (some stream processors effected) and the Pro is a poorly-clocking 2900XT. I'm actually looking forward to RV670--Radeon HD 2950's should be the performance to match the 8800GT. I'm also wondering what the 8900GT will be like--that ought to be some really kick-arsch silicon.

That 8800GT looks horrible. blink.gif I'm happy with my 8800GTS smile.gif

Physically smaller, less-expensive (after a month and rebates will probably be $200 flat or less), draws less electricity, and is built on a new core? I'm not sure I want to make the comparison just yet. I'm hoping that G92 will boost current DX9-to-DX10 games to an acceptable performance--at least 40 FPS. It's just scary that what we have of those DX10 benches out are saying an 8800 Ultra makes an unplayable game (versus very good performance in DX9c).

EDIT: If rumors hold true, then the 8800GTS will be refreshed with 112 stream processors--the 8800GT will get 96. Too bad there's no reliable benchmark information out there yet.

so theres going to be new nvidia geforce 8800 GTS? blink.gif whens it comming out?

It's a refresh card--who knows. Unfortunately the graphics companies aren't being very up-front with us... they slacked off with only budget-cards (8500GT, 8600GT, HD 2600 Pro, 2600 XT), overpriced "mainstream" (8600GTS), and then had their nice cards above $280 for a year now (8800GTS 320, 640, 8800GTX, 8800Ultra, HD 2900 Pro, XT). Unfortunate really--they should have given the real gamers attention (with $200 cards that actually perform well enough to buy).
