Generally Intel for hardware although I could give you more details on specific hardware components, and btw EVGA should not be credited for good video cards all they do is market and sell it.

Microsoft for software.

Software: Microsoft and adobe for me (fireworks/flash + ms web developer c#

)
Hardware:
I like odin and gigabyte for power supplies, although i don't tend to buy anything else scared its not good enough quality :$
Chipset + video card at the moment, nvidia (although i know near to nothing about chipsets

intel is doing fine to)
board, i like asus, kept me going for quite a while
proccessors, AMD + intel, amd seem to rule the lower end market - cheap fast proccessors, however for a bit of a kick you might want to get intel for performance

I guess if i was to buy a pre-built computer it would have to be dell, they seem to be pretty rigid machines and i always recommend them.

Microsoft (Visual C++

), Nvidia (8800 is heaven), Intel (CPUs and chipsets, they're heavenly), MSI (Great price awesome quality mobo in my PC), XFX (for my awesome graphics card and the return policies (which I've heard of are great)) and GEIL (top-notch RAM for good prices).

nVidia and Intel. Intel because it's the best thing out there and nVidia because they make some of the best graphics cards. Still, I'd go with AMD if it was really worth my while. Using the x1900GT will let me accelerate my crunching quite a bit

later on.
