Core 2 Extreme: QX9770 at a Glance

With high end quad-core processors boasting improved performance and higher prices, Intel have released their new QX9770 Extreme processor equipped with 1600mhz FSB and the first 45nm processor suited for a desktop.

So what does this mean? The new processor proves more efficient with less power usage and a cooler cpu this processor may just prove more stable. The problem is the new QX9770 will not support standard x38 motherboards natively. In order to utilize the chip, you must either overclock your current motherboard or buy the new x48 motherboard due to be released along side the QX9770.

That aside, the real crux is how will the new processor improve my computers performance? Unfortunately, applications haven’t been able to truly utilize Quad core technology. Benchmarks have been somewhat dismal at comparing performance between Quad and Dual Core thus showing little sign of change. However some games such as Crysis have started to push the limits of peoples computers. In any case, until games can utilize Quad core processors it seems the QX9770 will be reserved for true enthusiasts.
