Make a new folder and name it CON you cant name it CON for some random reason.

That's because the word "CON" is an old DOS command. It stands for "Console". In Windows 98 naming a folder "CON" would crash the computer so they disabled it. I guess they forgot to fix the bug in their newer operating systems or something...

Here are all the tricks I know:

Create a new text document and type "bush hid the facts" without quotes. Save the file, close notepad, and then open the text document again.

Hold down Ctrl + Shift + Alt and then click start, shutdown, cancel, now let go of the keys.

Ctrl + Shift + Esc = faster way to get to the Task Manager.

Windows + Pause/Break key = fast way to get to system properties.

Press the windows button then the "u" key twice to shutdown your computer quickly.

If explorer.exe ever crashes and doesn't start back up, you can press Ctrl + Shift + Esc and then go to Run and type in "explorer.exe" to start it again.

Open Minesweeper and type xyzzy now hold down the Shift key for a few seconds. It makes a white dot appear in the top corner of the screen. That dots lets you cheat at minesweeper.

Ctrl + W and Alt + F4 both close the active window.

You can right click the taskbar and click "cascade" or "tile" and it will arrange all the windows nicely on your screen. It's a lot of fun to do when you have 100+ notepads opened. laugh.gif

This isn't really a trick just an example of someone without a life.

Start > Run > type 'cmd' > type 'towel.blinkenlights.nl' > Watch.

FAILED.

This isn't a trick. This is a security feature. This is older than the internet itself.

I'd expect nothing less from you though, lawl.

It's unfortunately not the whole movie. I watched it in my networking course last semester when the professor was rambling about stuff that was unimportant.

I have that song in my playlist because i think it is awesome. There are plenty of XP secrets; you just have to find them. =)
I Like Pie739
Also, there are the various tricks with the Microsoft Pre-istalled games like freecell, minesweeper... etc.

Well anyway, I've got one. This is really a Google one; You used to be able to type in "Failure" and the President of the United States homepage would pop up =)

If that works (which I don't doubt it will) you're a legend, explorer.exe crashes quite often for me, this'll be a huge help. tongue.gif

It does. I used to use it regularly on my old slow computer. cool.gif

I didn't know some of the "easter eggs" inside Windows, but then again I really don't care for software. Anyways--a fun thing to do if you have a computer to kill is open up C:\, show all files and all system files, and then start deleting stuff randomly. I did that once... it was funny to see Win98SE spitting out errors and then just fail. Funny thing is that Microsoft disabled the formatting of the C:\ drive, but not the deleting of the WINDOWS directory.

Security precaution--don't do that if you value what's on the computer. It WILL kill you Windows installation if you delete many files. In short--if you have a computer's OS to kill, have fun. If you don't, don't even try it.

Believe me, I am waiting for the day to get an old computer to do exactly that.

I already have one--I want to try that trick on a few other PCs (that I still have to use) though.

Exactly how many computers do you have, Hatred? blink.gif

Anyway, I'll find a sheet of paper and then post. It's about causing a BAT file to delete any file on Windows (System 32 is fun). tongue.gif Will edit.
