Currently, I have Internet Explorer 7, and I heard that Firefox has better security than IE7. Is this true?

IE7 and FF2 are pretty much equal in security. Choosing one over another is just preference with some addons, but neither are a big security risk.

They also share the same security exploits. Firefox has more useful add-ons in my opinion.

Firefox should be compared against IE7 pro, which is very useful. However Firefox + noscript is more secure, since the biggest threat to internet users are remote intrusions / xss . I'm unsure of the IE7 version, its all down to preference.

IE has it's fair share of useful addons even for web developers. And since most people don't use No Script, it isn't fair to compare them that way.

Internet Explorer is a disaster when you're looking for inter-compatibility. Not as bad as Safari, but still pretty bad, as Microsoft just HAD to use their own JS API..

Anyways, I highly recommend Firefox 2, I've been amazed by it, and still am. It's so much better than IE.

Besides, it can never hurt to try! smile.gif

To answer your question; to the general user, Firefox is a lot more secure. But when you're careful with what you download, open, run, etc. there's not a lot of difference.

The gap in security between IE and FF is pretty much closed to the regular user since IE7. Research has proven this.

True, but IE 6 is still the most used version of IE. Version 7 isn't really as insecure or hard to develop for as version 6. Which makes it sad that people don't switch. closedeyes.gif

As time goes on, people will switch when they get new computers which will have IE7 preinstalled. Things won't happen over night. People aren't as tech-savy as we are and don't know how, when, and where to acquire updates or take the time to find them and actually update. And why is this in the programming board? I'll move it to discussion.

There's no competition. Firefox is a small program, has lots of add-ons, is secure, and looks great smile.gif
