Is there a limit to how many times you can re-install Windows XP on the same computer?

no there is no limit ive installed on my computer 24 times
There's no limit on how many times you can install Windows, but I think you will have to call Microsoft to get a new CD Key if you want to use Windows Updates. What kind of OS do you have? OEM copies (like the Dell CDs that come with the computer) work forever, but if reinstall without entering the CD key, then you only get 30 days until you have to activate it. After that the OS becomes unusable.

That's what I was wondering. I know that windows xp can only be activated 3 times but I'm not sure if that means on 3 separate computers or 3 times on any computer. So I gues what I was trying to ask is; How many times can you activate Windows XP on the same computer? Can someone please specify more.

It generally refers to three times on the same computer--for OEM licenses at least. If you have a retail package, it's supposed to be unlimited and transferable to any other computer--as you own the license itself and it's tied to the package, not the computer (as OEM is). Anyways--technically it's three times, most often however people get to about 8 before they have to call Microsoft and get a new key--which they generally issue without hesitating.

Well thats good news. I've already re-activated twice and was worried that the next time or two that I re-active I would get locked out. It's also good to know that Microsoft isn't two picky about giving new keys to people.

From my experience and others, Microsoft just want to know that your only running it on one computer, then they give you a new key.

^ Which that is easily bypassable, but I won't get into that...
I've reinstalled Windows XP Home on my old (crap) machine for about 50 times in its 3 year life span. It's worked fine every time.
