An extremely long while. It usually takes me about two to four days to run 1,000 Steel Bars, and that's just to the furnace. Granted, smiting will be much faster than smelting.

Buy iron bars, smith into plates, alch. Fast xp, moderately spendy (but not nearly as bad as steel!!), and the alchs are free once you've made the plates. Merchanting in the meantime can often make you back just as much as you lose smithing. Far faster than "by summer"

@as We did a conga to the ge, where i bought 7k silver ore. Then we had a cabbage fight, and that's about it...
@lord earth and combat It took a while. I got it to 60 a year ago ish, then 60-70 only took a month. I only used two pairs of air gloves...
