I recently bought two 1gig sticks of ram* and a 256mb* graphics card. Here are my current system specs:

Do you think I will be able to use Windows Vista Home Premium with little lag?
*Have not installed them yet

* 1 GHz 32-bit (x86) or 64-bit (x64) processor
* 1 GB of system memory
* 40 GB hard drive with at least 15 GB of available space
* Support for DirectX 9 graphics with:
o WDDM Driver
o 128 MB of graphics memory (minimum)
o Pixel Shader 2.0 in hardware
o 32 bits per pixel
* DVD-ROM drive
* Audio Output
* Internet access (fees may apply)
You can run Vista if you meet those requirements, which the hardware you purchased meets.
I really want to know why you want to buy Vista Premium though?

In short, no. Your processor is not good enough to smoothly handle Win Vista. If you want more advice--please download and validate a
CPU-Z dump. That'll let me know more about your system--and advise you more-properly. Also, what is the designation of the graphics card? I could get a GeForce FX 5200 256MB or a Radeon HD 3850 256MB... they won't perform anywhere near each other as the FX5200 is ~4 years out-of-date and ultra-low end while the HD 3850 is brand new mid-range.

I'm a sucker for Aero...

and I like the Media Center Controls.
Anyways, if my Processor is to slow I will probably stick with XP. I just wanted to know what my options are.

We need to know what graphics card you have to be honest. Just saying it has 256mb of memory doesn't really help.

If the graphics card is decent, then I reckon you should be able to run Vista. The processor isn't top notch, but it doesn't need to be.

That card should run Vista easily.

That card is fine--it's not that great (it's not a modern gamer card by any stretch of the imagination). Anyways--the motherboard is Socket 478 and requires DDR 200 or DDR 266 and only PCI slots. You have onboard graphics and are using two 256MB sticks of DDR 266 RAM.
Bottom line: The graphics card is incompatible. I need more information about your RAM purchase to help you more. To use the graphics card, and possibly the RAM as well, you'll need to purchase a new motherboard, possibly a new processor, and possibly a new power supply. Not good news.

It should work ok. A little slow on the downside, but when it's running good, you'll be fine

From now on--please read my above post. As it is, the system won't run Vista smoothly. Hardware incompatibility is, right now, the main reason. M-Man... link to the RAM?
