2007 was a very, very big year for sports. 2007 was a year of records and controversies. For this application, we'll take a look at Baseball 2007.

-----------------------

MILESTONES

Baseball in 2007 has a numerous amount of milestones! Alex Rodriguez, who would later go on to win the 2007 American League MVP award, blasted his 500th homerun. There were also pitching milestones set, as Tom Glavine defeated the Chicago Cubs to notch his 300th win. Sammy Sosa blasted homerun number 600, while 1st basemans Jim Thome and Frank Thomas hit their 500th homer as well. However, the biggest milestone of 2007 was set by 2nd Baseman Craig Biggio. Craig got his 3,000th hit and then retired following the end of the 2007 season.

Records

Alex Rodriguez, while blasting his 500th homer, became the youngest player in Baseball to hit 500 homeruns. Another strong record was set by none other than the controversial Barry Bonds! He became the HomeRun King after he passed Hank Aaron for Number 1 on the All Time HomeRun List. To end the season, Barry Bonds has a career total of 762 homers.

Controversies

Controversies played a big part in 2007 Baseball. Barry Bonds was found guillty of lying to steroid charges, and players such as Jason Giambi were declared as steroid users. The biggest controversie of the year was the Mitchell Report, releasing in December. The report was over 300 pages long and listed all the players former Senator Mitchell believed took steroids. Big, big stars such as Roger Clemens, Barry Bonds, Andy Pettite, and Miguel Tejada were named. The report contained over 80 players, along with some who haven't even made it to the big leagues! Talk about ruining your career when you're just starting it!

Great Runs and Sad Collapses

2007 also had 2 teams that had a great run, while the other team had a great collapse. The Colorado Rockies won 10 out of their last 11 to make the postseason. They had beaten the San Diego Padres in a 1 game playoff to see who clinched the National League Wild Card. They then swept the Phildelphia Phillies in the National League Division Series, and then the Arizona DiamondBacks in the National League Championship Series to advance to the World Series. However, they were swept by the Boston RedSox in the World Series, ending their phenomenal streak.

Unfortunately for the New York Mets, they blew a 7 game lead to the Phillies for the National League East division with 17 games to play. After being Number 1 for over 100 games, they finally fell 1 game behind the Phillies. However, the Mets were able to tie with the Phillies for the National League East Division in the final day of the season. However, on the final day of the season, the Phillies won. Mets Pitcher Tom Glavine gave up 7 runs while recording only 1 out. The game was over before the Mets came up to bat. Sad, very sad.

Champions and The End

The RedSox won the World Series for the 2nd time in 4 years. They truly deserved it.

As you can see, MLB in the year 2007 was a great one with also sad moments. What's in store for 2008? We'll have to wait a little longer...

Doddsy
I would like to start by saying I know nothing about baseball so I am unable to tell if the language you are using in some places is correct or if it is slang.

It was an ok review of the baseball year and was well written. I noticed a few mistakes but overall it was fine.
