1. Why would you like to join Sal’s Newspaper?
This can be short and sweet. Simply put, just try to let us know what brings you to the newspaper. We appreciate your interest, and we’d like to hear about it.
2. What section would you like to join?
Please refer to the Section Head List in order to see the newspaper sections available for your application. When you choose which section to apply for, please include it in the topic description of your application. You may also want to take note of the corresponding section head because this person must review your application and determine whether or not to accept you. Upon acceptance to the paper, you are allowed to contribute to other sections, although you will be expected to focus most of your articles on the section into which you were accepted.
3. Do you have any experience?
Please provide us with a short description of any relevant experience you have had in this area. If you have written essays, drawn comics, worked on another newspaper, and anything else related, please indicate that for us.
4. Post an example of your work.
Probably the most important part of your application, you must provide us with an example of your own work. Naturally, the work you provide depends on what section you are applying for (i.e. a comic or a story for those respective sections). You may offer material from elsewhere on Sal's forums as an example of your work, but it must be relevant to the section you are applying to join. We are not very strict about the content, so if you have a written example that doesn’t necessarily fall into the category of the section to which you are applying, it is not a big problem. The purpose of the example is for us to observe and evaluate your skill. Try not to post something too short, but a tremendously lengthy work is unnecessary. Your example will not be published in the paper, so keep that in mind.
Other Important Information:
- An application containing several mistakes does not look good and is more likely to be rejected. Be patient with it, and we recommend that you use a word processing program to write it.
- Only members of the Newspaper Staff can contribute to the paper. Therefore, you must apply and be accepted in order to do so.
- If you are accepted, you will be given the permission mask required to see all of the Newspaper Sections, where the work gets done (normally within 24 hours of acceptance). You will no longer need to use the Guest Forums, and you will be expected to make contributions. Activity sweeps are performed on occasion and inactive staff members are removed.
- If your application is denied, you may reapply once more immediately afterwards, but please take some time to evaluate where you went wrong, and request pointers if necessary. In the event that your second application is declined, you must wait at least one month before you can apply again, for every progressive application that follows (if necessary).
