I really enjoy reading the paper and all its high quality articles and I believe that I could contribute to make it even better.
2. Desired section:
Entertainment.
3. My experience:
I worked for my schools short lived paper in which I was head of the 'Books n' Games' section.
4. My example:
Rather than show some of my other work, I decided to write a whole new article to check my skill were still up to scratch. My current favorite game is Halo 3 for my Xbox 360 and I thought that I would write a full review of it for my application. But even though this is a game review I am a avid reader and would also be happy to do book reviews. I am also a Movie and Anime fan and would happy to do an article on either of these aswell
Halo 3:
EDIT: I have added in paragraphs I know I was accepted without them in my original application but I just personally wanted to edit them in. If any section heads for any reason wants me to change it back PM me and I will do so. Thanks.
Possibly one of the most awaited games ever. Halo 3 was the best selling game of 2007 in the U.S and as of January 2008 has sold an incredible 8.1 million copies worldwide. Thats a impressive set of credentials for any game. But does it live up to all the hype?
The single player campaign is short lasting only 9 levels but incredibly sweet. The campaign may be a bit short but due to the various difficulty levels and the award winning halo formula the replay value is still there. The locations range from vast lush green jungles to the decaying inside of an alien ship. All the environments are brought to life by incredible graphics and really show how powerful the Xbox 360 is, Motion Blurring and real time shadows only increase the awe factor. The Basic formula of the past two games remains unchanged and some may scorn Halo 3 for this but why fix something that is not broken? To keep things fresh new weapons such as the deadly 'Spartan Laser' have been added and a new feature 'Equipment' introduces and whole new tactical level to the game. The AI is frankly astounding the idea of a 'pack mentality' has been developed and you can really feel the difference.
A Brute leading a squad of grunts no longer feel like 7 enemies but one. I throw a grenade and rather than remain where they are and die the brute dives for cover and the grunts follow suit, once the danger is over the Brute re appears and the grunts run forward in a group swamping me. It feels real. This is the only way to describe halo 3 as I have said the stunning visuals and AI combined with a Epic sound track (written by the Martin O'Donnell the man behind the previous Halo scores) completes the experience. While the single player campaign is brilliant many do not see it as the games greatest feature.
Halo 3 online. Halo 3 has one of the most dedicated and diverse online communities of any game. Halo 3 online is fun and simple, matching you with players of a similar skill level and many fun and interesting game modes keep things fresh. Although one negative thing to mention about Halo 3 online would be that if you are unlucky you may be caught in a web of online abuse, with microphones intended for players to consult tactics and generally just chat this seems to have been abused. Greatly. Many a game I have played has been ruined by players shouting racist, sexist and frankly just stupid abuse at me and other players. But please do not let this put you off as Halo 3 online play is of the highest standard and in my opinion can only be rivaled by COD4.
Now time to face the facts. This game is as near perfect as a game can be, if you have an Xbox 360 you must own this game. As this game just shows how great gaming can really be.
