1. Why I would like to join:
I would like to join the Newspaper as I enjoyed my time on the paper last year, and now have more time which I would be able to contribute to the paper. I feel I can give quite a bit to the Newspaper through the World Affairs section, as I keep up to date with the news (generally have BBC News 24 on for most of the day when not watching anything else) and also am interested in the what is going on around the world.

2. Desired section:
World Affairs primarily, although I would help out in Technology if I saw an opportunity where I felt I could.

3. My experience:
I have been on the Newspaper Team previously for three issues, so I have experience for working for the Newspaper Team and know the ins and outs of how it operates. I read the BBC News website along with a few other British newspapers frequently, watch BBC News 24 (rolling news channel) an awful lot, so this should give my plenty of ideas of what I could write, but also give a more British view on things. On the literate side of things, I use a wide range of punctuation and vocabulary to keep my writing interesting. My spelling is also fairly good although I always use Microsoft Word so even if I did make a mistake, it wouldn't be an issue. I have a more time on my hands now, so will be able to dedicated some time to the Newspaper.

4. My example:

Sri Lanka bus bombing

A bomb attack on a bus in the outskirts of Sri Lankan capital, Colombo has injured at least 18 people according to military officials. The blast has been blamed on the Tamil Tiger rebels, a militant organisation campaigning against the Sri Lankan government. This bus blast is the latest in a series of blasts which have targeted buses since the government pulled out of a ceasefire last month.

The bus was travelling through a suburb of the capital when an eldery passenger spotted a package onboard which looked suspicious. After alerting the driver and conductor, they evacuated the bus quickly. Fortunately, the bomb went off after the passengers had evacuated, with no deaths reported yet.

"One lady has seen a suspicious parcel and informed the driver and conductor. They got everyone off the bus, and then the driver moved the bus 10-15 meters away from the bus stop," military spokesman Brigadier Udaya Nanayakkara reported.

It has been reported that the fighting has resulted in the deaths of 70,000 people in an ongoing conflict between the Tigers and the government. The Tamil Tigers are fighting for an independent area for the Tamils to live without being discriminated.

I'm glad that you have an interest in re-joining the staff, Stobbo. smile.gif Pity, I would like to have you writing for technology but you are welcome in my perspective to write for anything you want; however, I see that you also mentioned that you would write for technology when you have the chance. happy.gif

I'll keep an eye on the Technology section and try and contribute to it, depends on whether I can think of anything to write though. cute.png

I always thought that the section you apply for is more of what your going to focus on, not what you write for on every issue.

Your application looks solid, but it could be a bit longer, since we are not supposed to favor the guys that come back. Numba1MetsFan has brought this issue up a bunch of times and he's right in a sense that it would be hypocritical after the whole thing with his applications.

But that's just my opinion.

I would make it longer, but then it wouldn't show my style of writing news articles. pfft.gif I am more of a short summary style writer than in depth analysis writer. But if it is longer that you want, I could write another article?

I would wait for Kyle's take. He is the god of World Affairs after all. tongue.gif

Actually, I say that's probably the perfect size for an application sample. All we need is a good taste of how you write, not a full blown mega-article. tongue.gif Anyway, it was perfectly acceptable, so welcome back to the newspaper.
