Full Version: Zune 80 Or Wait...?

I did a job this Winter and got some money which I want to put toward buying a Zune. The only thing is, I have to cross the dilemma of waiting 6 months to see if Microsoft releases generation of the Zune or buy one now.

On one hand, I would enjoy the benefits of owning the player now. However, I am worried that I will regret it when and if Microsoft releases another Zune.

What do you guys think? Should I buy now or wait to see if they release a better player?

Go for it, Zunes don't get updated until November/December every year. iPods get updated every 180 days.

Plus Microsoft likes to keep all software of the Zune @ the same level no matter what generation. So usually only hardware gets the update.

I don't really care abouthe software. It's the HD capacity that I think I will regret. I love my movies!

Ok but remember Zune Marketplace only has music and podcasts.

I am currently an owner of a Zune 80GB and I love it. You can easily put about 100 full length videos on an empty 80 which is because they all have to be converted to a certain format before being synced turning a full length DVD to about 500MB. However please note that if you use Microsoft Zune Software to convert your videos you will be in for a VERY VERY LONG SYNC TIME.

I personally use MediaCoder (which has a built in feature specifically designed for the conversion of movies to Zune format) to convert my movies as it is MUCH faster- and there is actually a progress bar and est time to finish.

As for my recommendation... go for it. The 2nd gen Zune is worth the money for it's hardware, and even when it is superseded chances are it will still outdo the iPod.

Ian, I understand you are fairly new, however it is a rule that you should not post in topics which have not been replied to in 7 days. Might want to read over the rules if you haven't already. smile.gif
