The puppet takes power

Putin keeps his iron grip on Russia as voters pick Medvedev

Russians obeyed outgoing president Vladimier Putin yesterday and voted in a ‘puppet’ as his successor.

Dmitry Medvedev, 42, won 69 % of the vote, according to exit polls. The size of the margin means that there will be no need for a second round of voting before he is declared the winner. Medvedev’s victory had been inevitable after election rigging which saw leading opposition candidates barred from the ballot, flagrant media bias and a string of irregularities at polling stations.

Putin will become PM and is expected to keep control over the government, the army and the secret services. Last night Medvedev said his policies would eb a “Direct continuation” of Ptin’s and said he would form his administration in consultation with his predesscesor.

As he cast his vote in Moscow 5ft 4in Medvedev said “I’m in a good mood. Spring is here. The season has changed. His installation in May will be followed by a huge military parade, a show of strength not seen since Soviet times.

The only change at the Kremlin will be an injection of glamour from Medvedev’s 42 year old wife Svetlana, who loves expensive clothes and counts Russia’s leading fashion designers and perfume suppliers as her friends.

Medvedev is the youngest Russian head of state since Tsar Nicholas II, who was just 26 when he came to the throne in 1894. Many pundits believe that he can be expected to be ousted by Putin who, under the constitution, can become president again in the future.

I spotted a few minor mistakes in your sample writing, but it was still good enough to be accepted. Allow me to recommend that you just write your articles in Word before posting them (which I think everyone should do). Welcome aboard.
