Social Networking Sites

Social networking sites such as Myspace and Bebo are changing the internet for millions of teens and adults around the world. Myspace, now receiving 184 million visitors, is the cyber equivalent to hanging out with friends for a lot of teenagers who load the site with their photos and fill their profiles with their likes, dislikes and music tastes. Unlike Myspace and Bebo, Facebook is not open to anybody. Facebook is directed at University or collage students. In the United Kingdom Bebo is currently at the top of the social networking chart. Bebo, meaning 'Blog early, blog often', is the 85th most popular English-language website (1 June 2007) and in my opinion the best social networking site. Bebo possibly being one of the safest social networking websites, lets you decide if people you don't know can view your profile thus making sure you are not exposed to anyone with less than friendly intentions. According to pipl.com over the past 12 months Myspace has grown by about 82.7 million profiles which means Myspace raked in 157 new users per minute. Some think that social networking is just a fad and they do not want to invest their time in it. Although social networking has been going on for about 10 years now and most definitely will continue for many years to come. On the other hand there have been some dreadful cases of adults assaulting or sexually harassing teenage girls using Myspace and other social networking sites. I think that the negatives out weigh the positives when it comes to social networking and something should be done to the sites to make sure younger children are not allowed to use the site. On the contrary, being a member of Bebo and Myspace, I myself have never came across anything unfriendly on Bebo for I set my page to private and on Myspace I have had people I don't know leaving me comments but I just ignore the person and eventually they leave me alone. Social networking sites are definitely revolutionary and they are affecting today's society in many different ways. I think these sites will soon take over the internet and maybe many people's lives in the near future.

EDIT: Aye be changing 'yo?

Good coverage of the facts and survey of the sites, but little opinion or editorial comment. What is the future of these sites? How will they affect society or the individual?

The same amount of information could be gathered from a statistical table as from an article. The purpose of an article is to add value to the data.
