I was wondering what the best (free) audio program is. MAny I just want to just write down/play basic sheet music, but extras are great.

You were correct in placing the thread here. You are discussing technology, not experiencing a problem with it.

I know there's a program we use at school called 'Cubase', I'm not sure if that's what you're looking for, though.

At schools they dont use so much free programs.
Searched Wikipedia for Cubase, and the website, looks like its purchased
Have you tried Audacity?
Its good if you want basic audio editting

Audacity is one of the better free ones.
But i've also used Garage band and ACID and they are both good

To clarify, Audacity is for editing audio, like making the pitch higher, lower, etc. And i'm presuming that you want a program to write music with. So i wouldn't get Audacity if that is the case.

And i now Adobe doesnt make much free programs...
Dont install ACID if you dont want it staying forever, even i couldnt uninstall

Mixcraft actually looks pretty good.
