I'm quite knowledgeable in this area, and both Garmin and TomTom are really good makes. I personally prefer TomTom but that is more personal preference. Be warned, they can be quite expensive in comparison to the cheapy ones.

Or maybe he wanted our opinion?

I use a TomTom myself, great user-interface, frequent updates and a massive array of features.

Also it's never misdirected me once which is always a good thing, hear of a lot of people getting sent down one way streets at times. tongue.gif

I've heard TomToms are great, but I also heard Garmins are great too.

It's pretty much a personal preference based choice. I've always used TomTom so prefer them - however Garmin are also great. Do you have a local Motoring or Computer shop which sell Car GPS's? I'd go in one and get a feel for different makes.

Stobbo and Lethal know their stuff.

Go TomTom.

Edit: I own one too tongue.gif

You know what I like, POIs. She (Yes I call my TomTom a she) points out restaurants/food courts, malls, gas stations, mechanics, police stations, hospitals, and many more things. Since she automatically has the address, I can just navigate there. Then I'd go back to my frequent destinations/favorites and get to the destination I originally intended to go to. This is very handy on long trips

TomTom are great here in the US. Nice interface and my TomTom 720 works great when I drive and it's so great. You can concreate more on driving and not watch every street you drive by to see if this is the street to turn on.

Plus you can change the voice of TomTom to Mr. T
