For free, you can't.

Which version of Vista is it?

Once you get a copy of XP, just backup any files you want to keep and do a clean install of XP. The setup process will walk you through formatting the drive and installing the OS.

There isnt anything to do without installation CDs,
(Wish i had a installation CD for Windows 98 here slanty.gif )
You seem to be stuck with a Vista.
Its not much in the start of an systems journey...
Have you the possibility to buy a XP installation disk?
or, that would be the last to do though tongue.gif
But what computer did you have before you got Vista?
If so, was that with a installation disk?

If your serious after a XP, you could a buy a CD, but, as i said,
last soulution.
If you dont find another solution you need to buy a XP installation CD.
But a Vista is very useful after some months.(not to make you stick with it)

If you have a Windows XP License you could use Virtual PC (Free from Microsoft, Just if you are running Home Premium there is no support It will still install just Microsoft won't help you set it up if you run into any problems)

As for lag with games. If you really want the graphics to be the same as XP Turn the Aero feature off or switch to the Windows Classic theme temporary, you can shortcut them on the Desktop
