I just did this on the spur of the moment. I got the new Ubuntu 8.04, and erased the Windows XP & Vista partitions, and went all Linux. I found this software called "Wine," it lets you run Windows programs on Unix systems. I have installed Microsoft Office, Dreamweaver, and many others; the funny thing is that, they run better in Ubuntu. xd.gif .

Only thing I cannot get to install is the Photoshop CS2. Which is the big problem, because I use it most.

Is there a reason that it runs faster on linux?

Linux is very light, as compared to other OSs

I'd say go back to Windows. After all, CS2 won't work.

Not only is linux lighter it utilizes its resources pretty smartly. However emulation shouldn't run faster in Linux, since WINE emulates a windows environment it shouldn't run faster... your windows installation was probably just clogged up smile.gif.

I've been wanting to make this move for some time...

I'm not at all familiar with how to use Linux, so I'm hesitant to move completely over to it, but if I built a new computer I would certainly consider getting Ubuntu.

So if you use WINE can you play games?

Did you try searching for a guide?

Like Acid said, "emulation shouldn't run faster in Linux, since WINE emulates a windows environment". This means if you tried to play new games, they would either be incompatible or run very slowly, but you can play games made for Linux and older games made for Windows.

Here is a list of Windows games you can play on Linux:

Meh, it doesn't work for Empire Earth (I/II), SimCity 4, The Sims, Doom 3, Caesar 3, Pharoah, Rome Total War, Imperial Glory. I just read out a list of all my games.. so I'll make sure I don't run Linux as my only option.
