First off, I'd like to commemorate the staff of the Sal's newspaper on doing such a wonderful job on keeping the Newspaper looking great.
Getting back on topic, I was just wondering is there anyway to apply for an editor position? To my understanding, the editor position has always been the head of the newspaper, and they would read over the articles before they are submitted, such as looking at their grammar, any jumbled sentences, etc etc.

Well, I know this isn't really something that will happen, but is it possible to jump straight to an editor position?

No you can't. Editors have to be veterans for a long time and they are voted into their positions by us. There is no way that a new member can become an editor until he writes at least one article in that section and proves he's on top of it.
