Here is a selection of PSDs and Tutorials that I own(ed) and have the rights to post here. These will definitely help you improve.
FAQ
Sounds cool, but what's a .PSD?
A .PSD is the standard format that Adobe Photoshop saves in. When you open a .PSD, you can see all the individual layers and work out what the artist has done to create the final piece.
But I use GIMP! Will I be able to open these?
Yep. Gimp can open .PSDs so you have nothing to worry about.
So who's .PSDs are these?
These .PSDs are by some of the most amazing artists in the business such as; Lucidity, Chilled, ElS, Vexel, Kamangir, Dyst and more!
How come you can post them here?
On specific graphics sites (such as planetrenders and gamerenders) you can buy and sell your artwork (be it signature or large piece) in .PSD format for different rights* (see below) using the sites currency system, usually known as credits.
*What Rights are there?
There are several different rights, here are most of them:
Full Rights: Aka FR. You own the signature, you can sell it, wear it, but you cannot claim you made it or take layers from the .PSD. (These both come under ripping**, see below)
Posting Rights: Aka PR. You can post the .PSD, tutorial or what ever it is onto a site. Usually, you can only post them on one or two sites, but you cannot sell it, or rip** it.
Learning Rights: Aka LR. You can look at the layers, but you cannot sell it, post it or rip** it.
**What is Ripping?
Ripping is when you claim a piece of your to be your own. This is strictly forbidden and a very serious offence.
Another form of ripping is layer ripping. This is when you take a layer directly from a .PSD, be it render, adjustment layer, what ever, and use it in your own work. This is also a very serious offence.
What rights do we get and what rights do you have?
I have posting rights. I used to own full rights on all of these (I still do on a few), but I have since sold them on for full rights but with the term that I keep PR for one site. This is the site I'm posting them on so count yourselves very lucky indeed!
You get learning rights. So you can learn from them, and nothing else.
Can we copy things we see in the .PSDs?
Not directly (e.g. right click, copy, paste) but you can use the techniques, just try not to make exact copies of the signature, otherwise it can get very boring!

Stick to these rules and everything will be fine, abuse them, and I'll take down these resources.

By downloading/viewing the resource, you agree to observe and follow these rules closely, you will be punished severely if they are broken.

How to read a PSD
Some of these PSDs are labelled (the layer name briefly describes what to do) others are not. A basic understanding of Photoshop/gimps tool and filters may be required.
You hide each layer, until there are none visible, and then build your way up, revealing one layer at a time, and at each layer you think "how did the artist make this?" make sure you check the layers Blending Mode, Opacity and Fill.
To see an adjustment layer (in photoshop), double click on the half black, half white circle where the thumbnail usually is.

Some have a .PSD as well as a tutorial. It may be posted as both but it will say if the other is available. (To which you can request to have me host it).
All PSD download links are on Mediafire, but may be uploaded somewhere else too at a later date.
All tutorial links go to links in on Fileden, but are in the process of being uploaded to Sal's tutorials section.
REMEMBER, THIS IS LEARNING RIGHTS ONLY!
