Ok, so my friends are trying to talk me back into World of Warcraft. I say to them.
"I would, but it coincided to much with my Runescape membership. If only there was a way to get it free..." One of my friends said that there was, and he used something to do with wowscape.net. I checked on Youtube and there was something about it. My other friend disagreed and said he used gaminglagoon's surveys to pay for his. They both said they were free but I couldn't get any other info out of them. So I wanted to ask you guys a few questions about the two of them.

  1. Are they legal? (If no, then please miss out the rest of the questions)
  2. Which one is better? (Whichever one, just speak about that one for the rest of these questions)
  3. Are they private servers? (If yes, then please miss out the rest of the questions)
  4. Are they free?

Generally they are private servers, in which case aren't necessarily legal in terms of Blizzard's Terms. It certainly breaks their own terms of use. Whilst other people use online survey and offers site, to get money in return of filling out surveys and offers, they get the cash and use that to pay for the monthly subscription to WoW. That is legal, and is also free.

If you don't play WoW already, Blizzard won't really do anything to ya if they catch you. The worst they have done to a person for playing is just ban there Blizzard Server account. They have sometimes done leagle action against the servers but never the players.

I also play Wowscape and its pretty good. I play a few others but Wowscape is the best. Lately it has bad database issues with them re-doing Patch 2.4.0

They are private because they are privatly owned (not by Blizzard)

Most are free, some have features in which you pay for special items and weapons, the server I go on gives Donors special gear like super powerfull swords or armour.

If you do get on add Andythetwin/Andyana/Paladinandy/Kedria
thats me :3

If you wanna know how to do it I'll tell you how you set it so you can run on Wowscpae servers.

There are websites out there that will pay you to take surveys and it is legal. Many of them ask you to complete offers in which you have to sign up for more offers and possibly give out more information than you wanted to. Be wary of them as some of them don't just spam your inbox. If they pay you and transfer the money in your account, then it's yours to do what you want with.

I get it, I suppose I could give it a try, but if it asks for personal info then I just click off.

Nope, it doesn't ask for personal info.

Depending on your location, you might get an occasional d/c or some lag.

Lets just clarify this....
No, playing WoW on anything other then blizzard's servers will get you banned......
And trust me their warden program will find out if you do..... Well most of the time tongue.gif

They are very strict about that....

However if people just happen to give you money then.... tongue.gif

The wowscape has 5 servers I play averages about 32k-40k people. 60% of the players play retail and not a single player has complained or posted about his Blizz account being banned because they played Private server.

So trust me instead. If this stuff was illegal I think it would be alot harder to set up/ play.

Wowscape and most free wow sites don't give you money to play retail wow, you're playing a private server. It's a server set up by who ever using databases from emulator sites or something. One of my mates set one up a week or so back.

Umm....

B. You agree that you shall not, under any circumstances,

(iv) facilitate, create or maintain any unauthorized connection to the Game or the Service, including without limitation any connection to any unauthorized server that emulates, or attempts to emulate, the Service. All connections to the Game and/or the Service, whether created by the Game Client or by other tools and utilities, may only be made through methods and means expressly approved by Blizzard. Under no circumstances may you connect, or create tools that allow you or others to connect, to the Game's proprietary interface other than those expressly provided by Blizzard for public use.

EDIT: Wrong quote.... tongue.gif
Joe The Twin
hmmm you got me there.
Some servers have been running since patch 1.6 and not a single one has been closed down. And again, no one of the forum linked with the server I play has had there account banned on blizz for playing here.

So it's safe.
Natt39
Well I didn't say it got you all the time.... tongue.gif
Joe The Twin
yeah i guess.

Im gunna look on one of the emulator sites now and see what they have to say about it.

Edit:

>You may NEVER give this WoWEmu or information about it to personel or related persons of Blizzard.

Yeah I think it is illigal now. Oh well.

Just take this advise, your more likely going to be caught stealing from a Blizzard Staff member's pocket than caught playing Private servers.

It is not necessarily illegal. It's against theirs terms, but it doesn't mean it's illegal. The legality of it depends on the country.

Yeah thats a good point.

I'm guessing if they find out you play and or host a private server, they could still ban you because it goes against their terms of service. But the only way I can think of them finding out would be if you told them or they kept an eye on your realmlist file which would be a pain to do.
Andyana
Joe, we don't play retail WoW anyway so its not like Blizzard care what we do tongue.gif
If ArmyofIban doesn't play Retail then he has nothing to loose aswell.

Then again, retail WoW is alot better than Private servers anyway so if you do play Retail WoW, then whats the point playing Private. I'd play Retail WoW if I could be bothered paying it bleh.gif I might do actually though ohmy.gif

The EULA is a legally binding contract, braking it, is illegal in most territory's

God only knows what "warden" actually does..... unsure.gif It kinda scares me because they could be monitoring anything

Edit: I think i changed this like 12 times..... biggrin.gif spelling Ect. ect .

Again, depends entirely on the country. The same can be said about pirating, it is dependant on what country you are in.

Read up, Warden software runs while you have the gameclient open (probably while playing retail servers) and it checks all windows and .exe files currently running on your PC.

Blizzard havn't comfirmed what exactly is looks for but its presumable used to find speed hackers and ofcourse they say it stops people from making Private servers but how it works is beyond me. It must work like a google bot, searching pages on opened websites for specific criteria.

Which means if you were to do something Blizzard wouldn't want you to do while not playing WoW, they won't know.
Natt39
Ah....
But that's what they say...... tongue.gif Could be doing anything..... unsure.gif

Seems like a huge Breach of privacy to me......

If they were doing anything someone would of found out and reported it. If it was breaching privacy then you would of heard about it.
Gackt
I do it, my friends with level 70s do it, and alot of people do. If blizzard cared at all, then there would be court cases and such.
