Ok, I need a new gaming system.

I think I will have around €900 (~ $1400) next month.

so here's what I need:

OS
Screen
keyboard and mouse
and the computer.

I'm going to use it for gaming mainly.

It needs to be future proof, and parts must be easily replaceable with future parts.
Also a big HD would be nice.

Would be nice if I could play the following on max settings:
Team Fortress 2
DoD:S
CS:S
HalfLife 2 series
Definition
Well, what OS do you want?

Ubuntu, or Vista for DX10
Drolleke
Vista. I don't want to run everything with wine xd
Bob-sama
€900 Euro? I'll take a look for you. That's about €720 GBP. Would you rather build or buy prebuilt?
Drolleke
Ok. Also, I don't a fancy case or anything, and a 17" - 20" screen is fine.
I didn't see your edit xd sorry.

I don't mind building.

Then it's settled! You're building! laugh.gif

Core 2 Duo E7200
Asus P5Q Pro
AC Freezer 7, Zalman CNPS 9700, or Noctura NH-U12P (Go with the AC Freezer 7--though they're all overpriced! Wow! Those prices in the USA are ripoffs.)
Seasonic S12II 500W
Samsung 22x DVD Burner SATA with Lightscribe
Corsair XMS2 4GB (2x2GB) DDR2 800
Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB
Antec NSK4000
LG L206WU 20" LCD monitor
Windows Vista Home Premium 64-bit OEM
Logitech X-240 or Logitech X-540
Logitech G9 laser mouse
Logitech G15 keyboard

That entire basket comes out to be...

Basket + Delivery Ex VAT: £663.38 ex vat

Wow VAT is really bad there. Cheaper keyboard and mouse? I'm using the AC Freezer 7 and the Logitech X-240 speaker set for the cart as well. If you don't need speakers, drop those and save yourself a good bit. Lower-end keyboard and mouse would definitely save you a bit.

Uggg Bob-sama, video card?
I would actually recommend Core 2 Duo E8400
Drolleke
Thanks. as for vat, thats just for the UK, its 21% over here tongue.gif
But I can get computer parts really cheap trough my dads work, so no problem there.

Also, I think you forgot a gfx card? ohmy.gif
Darkeyes
Radeon 3870 or Radeon 4870 for graphics. If you really wanted to, then you could by two and do Crossfire.

bob did you FORGET the graphics card? laugh.gif its a gaming build too. An ATI 4850 would be pretty good in that build as for "future proof" it'll be able to play games for a while but as for swapping out parts, core is being replaced with nehalem so you'll most likely want to rebuild core components when you find your gaming build isn't up to it anymore.

Sorry--Novatech is annoying and confusing--a bit too opaque for my tastes of an e-tailer. Took me 10 minutes to figure out how to see the final sum.... dry.gif

Uh yeah--let's go with the HD4850. I coulda sworn I had it in there... if not, sorry? That's why I posted here--I do miss some things occasionally, and those prices in GBP make my eyes jump out of my head!
Drolleke
Ok. I'll update this in a few days with the prices I got for those parts.
RS4Ever
Umm ya I don't think that this is a good choice compared to what the experts say but I'll go with a Q6600 because that's more future proof then a quad core.

It's a better idea actually. Yeah a quad-core may be faster in the future, but the E7200 is much less expensive and there will be another generation of processors in 6-12 months. I would personally upgrade again after Nehalem--but my plans for that won't be anywhere near the same as with others. Anyway--quad-cores see nearly no advantages over dual-cores. This E7200 has a big advantage actually--optimized uArch, higher clock speed, easier to overclock on P965 and P45 boards, and just less expensive overall. Half the price, all the gaming performance. That, and none of the initially stated games need much.

I have been trying to. The parties in Miami took a bit out of me--even now. When I wrote that, a whole heck of a lot more!
