On my computer I noticed A LOT OF DUST in my computer. So all I did was take a paper towel and just took out all of the dust!

And then amazingly RuneScape stopped lagging!
My comp just froze up and now it works perfectly.
You should try it because now I am lag free!

It's actually better to use compressed air so you don't damage anything and can get everything out.

But dust can collect easily in computers and causes it to heat up meaning that it will run slower to prevent damage. Not only did you make your computer run faster, but prevented it from frying. ice.gif

I don't have compressed air sitting in a tank anywhere in my house....
oh well yay me! yay.gif

But walmart does! yay.gif

$5 for a can? Yes, you're paying for canned air, but still. laugh.gif

Wal-Mart is pwnt. I might give this a shot. My computer will do anything to prevent me from playing with no lag-ola.

Make sure to concentrate on your system cooling fans, power supply fan, and vents. This allows the flow of are to properly cool down your system. Of course, clean it while the system is turned off and unplugged from a power outlet.

Lol, this is just the exterior dust on the back and front of the comp!
I can't wait to open her up and see how much dust is on the inside.... confused.gif

You're in for a tough battle against an evil bunny. A dust bunny that is.

How slow was your computer before?? mellow.gif

I cleaned out most of the dust but can't get the side of the computer to go back in. Every time I slide it back in, one slide clicks in but the other side won't go in. Nothing is in the way, it just won't go down. WT?
How do I get it back in?

Hmm.. obviously there's an extremely small chance I have the same case as you, so I can't really help, but just put the end bits into the computer and then put the top bit in the top and sort of slide it to the left.. xD maybe that helps.

My computer is constantly being opened up to fulfill my desire of fiddling with computer stuff, but I find that there never is any dust in there.. I built it myself so I must be good at getting air circulated tongue.gif.

On the Dell Website it shows how to put it in. I have the bottom things in, but when I put it in the top there is a metal line thing blocking it. IDK....

Wierd.. tried doing it in the opposite order? tongue.gif. It obviously can fit because it was in before..

What model do you have? Also, have you tried to contact Dell's computer support? I can't help you directly, unfortunately, I find Dell computers to be inferior to a custom PC or a Mac, but if you are on a budget, I guess they are good.

By the way, don't just bang on it and hope it works okay, you could actually damage something...

This is a great topic, forgot that you could remove dust to speed up your PC. Maybe I'll do that today to my old 2001 PC (that I don't know why I still own).

Nice but the lag is at the internet provider

It was just your computer that was badly cooled
Now the dust is out your computer is cooled better and it has higher preformance

So i guess it was just your internet provider wink.gif

No, it's not always the ISP.

If you're playing an offline game and it lags, clean out the dust and it runs better, then it's because of overheating.

But with me, my graphics card is the problem. Since I barely meet the requirements, full screen lags when I have shadows on, so I'm forced to turn them off.

That's not the ISP's fault. wink.gif

Hey guys I have found (yet another) way to reduce lag!

I was in P.C. on High detail (Not fullscreen) and I began playing some music from WMP11. I could hear my fan turnining faster now BUT: RuneScape had stop lagging... What?

Any ideas on how this works?

Either it was a coincidence or you are imagining things.

Nope, RuneScape actually WENT FASTER WITH MUSIC PLAYING!
Wierd huh?
I should try that again!

For my computer If I play music I tend to lag just a bit more, even if its just a few seconds of lag. (Btw, my computer lags with runescape because my parents are reluctant to get out of this stupid dial-up provider bleh.gif It doesn't even go as fast as its supposed to go. I get in at 24kbps... when I am supposed to get in at twice that))

How do you survive? I get 800 on bad days, and to americans / swedish / other countries with fast internet: it's fast for the UK (but slow compared to most of you sad.gif)
