So, I've decided to upgrade my HD since they're so cheap. Now I want a 320GB one, and I don't know how I'll upgrade it, because I don't know whether it's SATA or IDE and such. The model is HP Pavillion a610y. I would also like you to suggest some HDs.
Ok, I talked to HP live chat, and they said that I am connected through IDE, and suggested IDE Ultra ATA100, would you agree?

You have two IDE connectors.

As for good ones, can't help you there. Bob will probably be more of a help.

Make sure you buy a HD with 7200rpm or above.

Recommend... Seagate Barracuda or WD cavier. IDE ATA/100. ATA/100 should be okay @ 7200rpm only a little bit slower then a S-ata version i'd imagine.

Open box means it's just the item, so if you already have the cables for it then yeah that's fine.

What cables come with an HD?

Eh i usually get open box since mobo carries the cables. S-ata/IDE cable i'd imagine.

Sometimes SATA/IDE cables come with it.

Meh, I think I'll be replacing it as master, and put my old one on slave.

USA or? Also I'd say avoid Seagate's lower-end drives--specifically consumer drives. They've gotten into the bad habit of using Maxtor's (recently acquired) drives and sticking a Seagate label on them, to cut costs. Other than that, I'd say look at Western Digital. I've never had a real problem with a WD drive, and they still have a decent 3-year warranty. Look for a Western Digital Caviar SE16 320GB for your interface (meaning not SATA).

$15 more...
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx...N82E16822136111500GB drive as well.
Look at the Caviar SE16 drives--with a 16MB cache instead of 8MB. The larger cache equates to better burst read and write speeds, so I'd usually say look for the extra drive cache for a few dollars more.
