When I try to play it, it fails, coming up with this error:

What link are you visiting? If you have to much trouble, go to the iTunes store and search "The SalCast Team" It will give you the options to subscribe and download all your favorite SalCast editions for absolutely free!
I can listen to it on the store, but I can't subscribe to it.

I am able to subscribe, have you got the latest iTunes? Subscribing only means you get notification and or automatic downloads of the next SalCast's, you can always download previous SalCast's though.
