Hello, thank you for viewing my thread. Anyway, since the iPhone has no keypad and java cell phone games require a pressing keys, how would that work on the iPhone?

This thread can be closed now, please.

They iPhone has a touch screen. There is a key pad already in it it. I think there is a thing you press and it brings up a key pad on the screen.

Does that answer your question?

The keyboard pops up whenever it's needed. When you select a textbox or are writing an email, for example.

As for Java on the iPhone/iPod Touch; there's no Java support for the system yet, so it's not really an easy thus far.

Yes this does answer my question, but come on Apple, you can make a phone that awesome but no java support. angry.gif

But when you say it doesn't support java, are you coming from the iPhone 2 or do you KNOW the iPhone 3G doesn't support java either?

The original iPhone and the newer iPhone 3G are the same phone with different firmwares and a different case. Just about the entire thing is the same hardware. And don't expect a mobile phone to run Runescape.

Actually, the iPhone 3G has GPS, 3G support and a few hardware improvements. So they're not identical. tongue.gif

Cell phones are becoming more and more like miniature laptops every week. I would not be surprised if one supported Java in the upcoming year or two. Any longer and that would actually surprise me.

Sorry--I meant actual improvements and core hardware differences. 3G is a powerhog on the iPhone--kills battery life. GPS is about the only thing new and useful.

The major changes to the actual phone were pricing. It had to be made 'Europe ready' price-wise, which it simply wasn't before. Now there's a 6 week delivery delay on the things.

I'm back. Anyway. First of I didn't mean RS, I just HEARD Jagex was gonna start making cell phone games that run off of java in the future so I was wondering about the iPhone. Second a lot of phone (such as my sister's) already support java so the iPhone should support it in the future.

It is not required for a phone to have Java.

Sun has said they have ported Java to the iPhone and it works fine. The problem is that that the App Store licensing prevents Sun from releasing Sun to the iPhone.

Apple has its own game library and now that includes a good number of outside developers. Besides--the type of games you'd play on an iPhone would likely take advantage of the touch-screen, something most other phones lack. Makes some games more fun and some more difficult. And I hear they cost about the same.

Yes I realize the iPhone has its own games (such as monkey ball) but what I was trying to find out was if Jagex ever made java cell phone games would they be playable on the iPhone?

Only if they make special iPhone versions as actual apps, and not as Java programs.

Well that stinks
