Is spoofed emailing illegal or just "bad"? Either way I'm guessing you're not allowed to talk about it here so I won't .

I expect it's classed as Internet Fraud, and so will probably be punishable by law in most or all countries. (certainly GB i would think).

Although if you aren't trying to scam people out of money or doing anything which is to your or someone else's gain, I am not sure if it would be internet fraud.

I would imagine that if you do it to commit a crime like trying to steal people's passwords to online banking, then yes it is illegal, probably under the Computer Misuse Act 1990, in the UK atleast.

I suppose Stobbo is right, if it's something stupid like tricking a friend then it won't be illegal

Plus if you are caught you will be in trouble with more than two countries if you committed the act outside the bank's home country.

For example if you commit internet fraud in the UK against a US Bank like Bank of America you will be taken to court in the UK for breaking laws in the UK and then exported to the USA and have another trail in the USA.

And seen as the UK is the 51st state, there never seems to be a problem extraditing people.
