1. Why I would like to join:

I have a great interest in graphics, and I like writing for the most part.

2. Desired section:

Graphics

3. My experience:

As you likely know, I am the leader of the SalCast here, so, I certainly good for deadlines and such.

Outside of Sal's, I work professionally as a Graphic Designer for a web design firm, so I have much expirience in graphics.

4. My example:

Art Styles: Grunge

Welcome to the Art Styles article, where each issue, we highlight a different style of Art. This month, we feature the grunge style. Popularly used in an urban decay or destruction motif, this style receives it's background from the grunge music scene, a type of Punk-Heavy Metal cross over.

Designing with grunge can bring a very nice sense of realism in your work.

Case One:

In this personal portfolio, he captures your attention with some crude wooden graphics, and follows through on the theme showing off his work at the same time.

While grunge is based on that "dirty" style, you have to also make sure you are keeping a sense of usability in mind. While the grunge text at the top of this page ties into the site well, a bit more standard-form text with frivolous grunge elements would have given the same effect without the unpleasant problem of illegibility.

Case Two:

Here you see a simple application of the grunge style. A simple grunge background with dark/black elements can create the same grunge "feel" without changing your whole design in that style.

Remember: In a grunge style design, you want to avoid repeating features, and uniform design. Think decay, rust, ash, and even mold.

Tip: To get into the feel of your grunge design, try playing some music from the genre that gave birth to the design style. Nirvana's Smells like Teen Spirit and Pearl Jam's Even Flow are two prime examples.

Grunge Resources:

The "Best Textures" flickr Group Full of many nice textures that add a new sense of dimension to your art.

DeviantArt: Rust Textures
Rust is a common feature in most grunge pieces, and this gallery contains some of the best out there.

As well, I will include my latest piece of work, that is to become my latest history project: http://i36.tinypic.com/2rgm5tz.jpg

It is 18x24 inches, to be turned into a poster, so slow connections be warned.

I think it's a great application. I like the different versions of Grunge you included as well as some resources. The video link was also pretty nice.
