Today, September 11, 2001, Apple released iTunes 8 with several new features. Most noted, are the "Genius" features, which do automatic playlists. There is also a new sidebar which recommends music based on what you're listening to. Also added is a new layout, a grid layout, which is a grid of album artwork. Finally, the iTunes Store now has HDTV shows for $2.99 (1.37 Pounds).
Discuss.

I just updpated. I don't really care though.

The only thing I do is buy music and then add it to my iPod.

It was actually released on 9 Sept.

I've downloaded it and will install it tonight probably, the features don't jump out at me though.

Was it? It didn't appear on my Apple Download Management thing, yesterday.
Oh well, I'll get it when I get home. Sounds good.

Sometimes you find software is not put out on automatic updates immediately.

I don't care, actually.
I can't use the Genius feature as my parents' credit card won't work on the registry.
I don't have too much album art, as a good amount of my songs aren't downloaded legally. (Sssh).
Therefore, I'm stuck with the old setting to view, as viewing the Grid or Cover Flow without much album art sucks.

Just installed it and I won't use it any differently. I prefer my library in list view, if I am honest.

As do I.
I really find the "Genius" thing pretty useless. Its the same thing to go in list view and searching for the term "Hard Rock" or artist "Boston". But I still downloaded it because it would of not installed the 2.1 software of iTouch without the latest iTunes version.

I'll keep my music in list view... Genius is a cool feature. But it's very picky about what it can use (Store purchased vs. downloaded)

I got used to browsing albums and artists on my iPod/iPhone - and that was something that I very much missed in iTunes. I don't like the way they implemented it much, but I guess it's a step in the right direction.

Toungy, you can change it.

Or are you talking about something else?

He is saying, he liked the album browsing on his iPod, and missed it as iTunes didn't have the feature pre-iTunes 8. He doesn't like the way it works in iTunes 8, but thinks it is a good step.

Totally agree. For me its what really separated WMP from itunes, the fact you can view every single song from every album in a list format. Now you can only view via albums? Its annoying...

Not necessarily, the "albums" are actually just
artists with one album cover (random).

I've had iTunes 8.0 since its release date, and I can say that it's let me experience my music library again. I have a library of over 13,000 songs and I never would have known some songs would go together. I'm loving Genius on my Macbook and Touch.
One downside is that Genius takes a while to update the first time. It took 45 minutes for my 55GB library. Hopefully it will be shorter in the future.

Umm well it sure wasn't 2001 cause if it was, I reckon the world trade center would have disrupted steve jobs little iTunes 8 announcement

But I am going to probably download iTunes 8 tomorrow and see what the big hype about it is

Sorry if I am not allowed to do this but I thought I should warn those users with Windows Vista in case this hasn't been fixed yet..

http://blogs.zdnet.com/Bott/?p=536That issue was resolved within a few hours of the release I believe. I have iTunes 8 running on two Vista machines and both are fine.
