I am thinking about getting a new computer, and I don't know if I should get 32 bit vista or 64 bit. Can anyone tell me which is better. I will mostly be using it as a gaming pc.

If you have 4+ gb of ram, then you'll want the 64bit.

I've heard that the 64bit is more stable than the 32bit.

64 Bit seems to be the future of PC's, although you can still use a 32 Bit very well even half-a-decade from now. The 64 Bit will just utilize more memory from the PC into the RAM, so you'll have to have a decent amount of RAM to effectively use 64 Bit.

So, if i plan on keeping the computer for several years; I should go with 64 bit then?

No, you can still use the 32 Bit in the next several years, but the 64 Bit seems to be what people are making programs for now.

Okay, so will the 64 bit surport 32 bit drives and programs?

The 64-bit version is where the industry's going. After about 16 months of Vista, 64-bit is proving itself for a large number of machines. Enough that the sales of Vista64 are expected to top 90% in the coming months, compared to Vista32. I'd say go to Vista64--I'm using it right now and it's a good, solid OS. 16-bit installers cease to function, though that's a sign of sloppy programming for any programs a decade or less old. Ive had a few problems--I won't lie. CnC Generals doesn't run very well, and some old games will require persuasion to run.

Okay, if the only thing that doesn't work is 16 bit programs, which I don't have many of, then I will go with 64 bit. Thanks for the help.
