What is the difference between a wireless n and a wireless g router? And can you make a wired connection wireless by connecting it to the modem? If you can witch router do u prefer?
Mikey
Wireless G routers use 802.11g standards. Wireless N routers use 802.11n standards. [More]

At the moment I prefer g routers, I just bought a new netgear one. I feel that n is not completely standard yet so I'm going to wait until it's more popular.

well yes n isn't a standard, but if your wireless card support n you should pair it up with a router that supports n specifications. It'll still run fine with 802.11g devices. However 802.11n devices/routers cost moar smile.gif

I hear that the N router is much faster than the G router, as it can reach speeds up to 5x faster than it would with the G router. Also, a computer with an N wireless card has a greater wireless range, although it does depend on some circumstances.

Wireless N is faster than Wireless G. For example, my Wireless N router paired with my Macbook nearly 100 feet away and through several walls is exactly the same speed as being wired into the router.

Wireless N is showing up on more and more laptops. I'm waiting for the day they show up on handheld devices (BlackBerries, iPhone/Touch, etc).
