Yestarday all my new little parts from newegg came in. smile.gif
Im excited. Heres the list of what i got:

AMD X2 ATHLON 2.4GHZ
2GIGS DDR2 RAM
250 GB SATA HD
SATA DVD-RW/CD-RW COMBO
MSI MOBO- forgot model number, but its a preformance board with raid and other goodies
EVGA, NVIDIA 9600GT Video Card
XEON CASE with blue LEDs in the fans

The only thing that sucked was that the Power supply that came with the case only has 1 sata power connector, both my hd and dvd drive use one, and the stupid motherboard didnt come with a ide-sata power converter. angry.gif Im getting one from a local pc store today on my lunch break. Cant wait to get wow installed and play rs in high detail too haha.

rate if you want smile.gif -/10

2/10. I see problems. So... many... problems.
Acid
hmm case/psu combos should be avoided, i say you should return it to new egg and pick up a reliable corsair + CM case wink.gif.

Don't understand why you got a 9600GT for high detail RS XD but okay.
Bob-sama
1) Why the Athlon X2?
2) What MSI board?
3) Do realize that a 9600GT is very much overkill for RS HD
4) Xeon case... and a power supply combo. Yuck.
5) What about OS?
6) Standard AMD and Intel "gunk" is just that--gunk. Better TIM, even on stock.

3/10..

1. Case: Um I guess some people have different preferences in appearance pfft.gif
2. Athlon: You got an Athlon instead of Intel Dual Core why?
3. 9600: I'll assume (hope) that you got the 9600 for games other than Runescape HD

Come on now people..... You cant expect every person to shell out 1000 or more on a computer

I wish you luck with the computer and hope for no problems once everything is hooked up

E5200 = $85
P43 = $80
4GB DDR2 = $46
HD4650 = $70 (about equal to a HD3850--still overkill for WoW and RS HD)
SS-400ET = $53
CM Elite 330 = $40
WD5000AAKS = $65
Vista HP x64 = $100

$540 or so, plus about $30 shipping for $570 being the total. Stock CPU is faster than the Athlon X2, and can be overclocked fairly easy and can slaughter the Athlon X2 that way. And a HD4650 is about equal to a HD3850, which is a tad bit slower than a 9600GT. $10 more for a HD4670, which is about equal to a HD3870. Faster than a 9600GT, and still very much overkill for RS HD.

Besides--Nehalem launches in a few weeks, but will be significantly more expensive because it's new technology. X58 boards will be expensive, DDR3 is relatively expensive, and even a Core i7 920 is going to be a bit... expensive. Not a cheap upgrade, though you could go along and grab 4GB DDR3 1333 and an LGA775 with DDR3 support. Less expensive upgrade if you wanted to go that route, but Nehalem won't be mainstream for a few months.

wow...ok, to clearify...i spent 400 dollars on everything i listed.
1. I play world of warcraft and COD4 - reason for the 9600...
2. I still dont understand why people talk crap about AMD, they preform as well as intel, if anything they just dont last as long
3. I have overclocking software for the CPU
4. yes the powersupply that came with the case does suck and i plan on getting a new one from a local pc store today
5. Windows XP pro is my OS, everything is installed and running, all the drivers and what not. Got wow client downloading now. I installed COD4 last night and its playing amazingly.

0) $400 isn't bad for that, though you could be getting ripped off for hard drive, as it may be as little as $5 more for 70-80GB.
1) 9600GTs are fine, but how much did you pay? And it is overkill for most setups for just WoW and RS HD.
2) The AMDs perform worse clock-for-clock than the Intels. They don't overclock so well and typically consume more electricity under load as well.
3) Overclock through the BIOS--using software is typically asking for trouble.
4) Duh. Make sure you get something good quality. If nothing else, Antec's 80PLUS units are typically decent.
Pyrokar
Personally, unless you're actually going to overclock, there is no problems with an Athlon, and you shouldn't need to overclock anyway, you should buy a computer that fits what you want, without having to pump it up a bit, the only time i would consider overclocking is when the computer was at least 2 years old, making it nearing obsolete on the new games, however mine now being a year old is going strong and i have not yet met one obstacle with it on high graphics, and have overclocked nothing, then again it was a $2000 AUD computer smile.gif.

Point is, buy parts for what you need, not under the requirements hoping to overclock, and if you do this, a cheaper athlon is just fine; maybe grab a thermaltake psu, from memory that's what mine is and its going well with the 2900xt, such an antique graphic card sad.gif.

Well I wouldnt really call it overkill for cod4, but it somewhat future proofs him for some future games coming/already out.
Acid
That seasonic PSU is pretty darn good for the price at $53 its a steal smile.gif Plus your computer wouldn't draw much anyway.
The Black Prince
Its good for $400, but im afraid ill have to state that AMDs are now a rip-off for the performance they give, poor clock speed and more electricity usage. Its false economy when you have to upgrade - and you will, be it 6 months or a year, as you get interested in new games, loads of my friends said that theyd be fine with an AMD, then they decided to play online games while doing other things at the same time. Big mistake with AMDs. Then you'll kick yourself that you didnt buy an intel, and i used to be a hard core AMD fan myself (Athlon single core 3700+ ftw back in the day), so this pains me to say.

Good graphics card at least, some future proofing there anyway.
The Angel Bunny
It's not a bad system
