Hi
Today we added an exception to the bumping rule for the Skill Logs section.
From now on topic starters (owners) of a log in the Skill Logs section are allowed to bump their logs no matter how old the last post is.
So a topic starter can now bump up his/her thread no matter how long ago the last post was made. He/she can do this by either making a post or by using the "bump" option in the topic option menu.
Note however that this doesn't allow to make a doublepost and only counts for the topic starter!
We decided this because we all felt that it is kinda silly to lose your log when you go on vacation unless you ask other people to keep it alive for you.
the bumping rule reads now as follows:
QUOTE
Bumping:The act of “bumping” a topic means that a [often meaningless] post was made with the intention of moving the topic to the very top of the topic list to gain attention. It may also consist of posting to an "old" topic, or a topic that has not been posted in for more than 7 days. This is not allowed.
Note: There are 2 exceptions to this rule. In the Marketplace, Clan board, Skill Logs and the Submissions section you may use the "Bump Topic" link in the "Options" menu above the first post in the topic to bump your topic to the top of the list. Also in the Skill Logs section the starter (owner) of the log can bump up his/her thread no matter how old it is. Note that this doesn't allow the topic starter to make a doublepost!

One other thing not mentioned, try not to one-word post when bumping or over zealous reporters will have a field day...lol
At least try to add something of note such as what you have been doing since the last post

Might be worth making a note of it being bumped though still, maybe in the first post as I dont think the bump feature tells anyone it has been bumped, we dont want some innocent coming along and having it look like they bumped it do we? lol

Excellent addition. Logs can be really hard to maintain and this will make it easier

Ironically, I thought this rule was already implemented, although I was just about to pm a mod about it to check. Turns out I was wrong... but aren't anymore...

What if:
You posted say july 1st.
You go on holiday.
You return to find no one has posted in it.
You want to bump it.

You can't ask someone else to do it because they will get in trouble (FFS I KNOW THAT NOW)

I have a question. Say the log owner was the last one to post. Since they aren't allowed to double post, they bump their log by using the Options -> Bump this topic. Then someone comes along and posts in their log. How will you (Mods) know if it was the poster's post that bumped the log or not?

I like this rule, I remember trying to save my log but instead got a warn for it. Too bad this rule is 2 years late.
Anyways, atleast you are accomplishing something

Great rule, I just still think that topics that have not been posted in in over seven says should be marked or closed, it would make accidentla bumps non existant and would make things so much easier.

Useful modification, I believe. I remember way back I had a skill log, which kinda got lost, and someone (I didn't know) bumped it by posting, and then it was closed. I guess it's good that skill logs can't be closed by bumps anymore.

Niec rule, but I reckon there will be mass spam mainly because there are sooo many logs out there.
I reckon you should've enabled it in the digital media sections instead, they recieve none, or very little attention.

Great, now you just need to implement this in the Graphics sections...where shops need to be bumped too.

That's exactly what I pointed out in the CC.
I think that if a topic hasn't been posted in for a long time (eg. I saw a log which had no posts for 6 months), is basically a dead topic.
There is always a reason a topic hasn't had a post in a while - usually because people have not been interested to post in it. If this is the case, then bumping has no point apart from easy spam.
But maybe it helps people who were inactive for a little while...
